My feeling is, if a photo shows a cutter with the racing stripe, it ain't "old."

Great photos thanks for sharing. Raceing stripes were being put on as I was getting out and next year will be 40 years.

The image of CG-40423 is located near Ward Cove, north on the Tongass HWY from Ketchikan, Alaska.

AJ .. The 40-foot utility photo you have is pretty but it's only old when they look like these 40's in New York Harbor.

Or when your 180-foot buoy tender had a designation of WAGL and a 3 inch 50 Cal in the Gun Tub behind the stack ... now that's old! Wink

Hmmm. I meant the photos weren't old, even though the cutters were. They should have been grandfathered (grandmothered?) -- as they did with the Eagle, at least for a while. I didn't at first, but I have learned to like (well, accept) the stripe -- especially since everyone is now doing it. However, they should have left the Eagle pure white.

I have a "ton" of old photos, including shipwrecks at Old Coast Guard Photos. There is also a large section of the USRC Bear from my personal collection...never before being published. Hope they bring back some fond memories.
