This is a great read penned by a Republican county party chairman in NC. I think you will enjoy this. He has given me permission to send it to our local paper for publication as an opinion piece.
America’s Freedom…Is it Worth Saving? The first Tuesday in November is historically Election Day in America and tomorrow, municipal elections will be held all across North Carolina in its cities and towns. Some states will be holding critically important elections for governor, such as the much anticipated races in Virginia and New Jersey. We have learned a hard lesson from the Presidential, Congressional, Legislative and Gubernatorial races of 2008… elections do have consequences. I do not recall in any prior election where the consequences of the choices made by voters resulted in the depth of damage to our nation’s freedom and liberty that the 2008 elections continue to cause. The Framers of our Constitution understood that liberty and freedom must be protected from the intervention of foreign powers, but they also understood that more importantly, it must be protected from our own elected leaders. In fact, those noble visionaries built into that great document safeguards to protect the fragility of individual liberty from the abuses of an over reaching government. President Obama with his campaign of “Hope and Change” has systematically begun to tear down the foundational principals upon which this nation was founded. He stated that he wanted to “rebuild America’s foundations.” We now are beginning to understand what he meant and the length to which he would go to deliver on his promise of change. Our Constitution is being ignored and quite frankly, being shredded in front of our eyes by this President and his administration. His cabinet is composed of liberal thinking bureaucrats, but even they pale in comparison to the President’s Czars. These non-confirmed Czars are as radical and anti-freedom a group as has ever been assembled in America. As more background information seeps out about the sordid past of this rogue group of freedom haters, we begin to understand that their views are not unlike those of the President himself. The Czars are simply an extension of President Obama, his agents of change, and they have been tasked with changing every facet of the America that we hold so dear. American has always been that land of unlimited opportunity, a bastion relatively free of the hindrances of government intrusion. Yet, that America, that shining light of freedom, has and continues to be under assault by a thought process, an ideology that abhors individuality, while championing an ever growing role of government over our lives. This President and his minion of radical socialists are dedicated to changing America, destroying our capitalist system, limiting free speech and regulating every possible aspect of our lives. This is exactly what our Founders feared most, a growing government no longer subject to the citizens, but the citizens subject to the government. But there is another important date just a few days after the elections and it is one we must never forget. November 11th is Veterans Day, a time to remember the sacrifice of our military veterans, both past and present. From Bunker Hill, to Bastogne, to Hamburger Hill, to Kandahar and the War on Terror, America has always been a stalwart for liberty and freedom. We stepped forward in 1941 to free an entire continent from the chains of tyranny and stop the innocent slaughter of millions. America has never been an occupier, as some would spew their hatred, but instead a liberator, a defender of liberty. It is America that the downtrodden across the lands continue to look to us as the last beacon of hope and opportunity for freedom, a longing that every human soul seeks. We could not honor our Veterans in any more noble way than to exercise our right to vote, a right that they fought and died to give us. It is only through the ballot box that we can reclaim America and reestablish the principles that the Founders so carefully laid down for us. We must not only vote on Tuesday, but we must work in the coming year to elect conservatives that will fight for and defend those principles. America’s best days can and will be ahead if we’re willing to fight the good fight, never compromising our principles and always mindful that America is a nation of exceptionalism, a nation blessed by God. Those that we remember and honor on November 11th gave us freedom, liberty and opportunity. By our own complacency, we have nearly let it slip away. I don’t believe America’s best days are behind and that we must simply accept the direction that this President has laid out. In fact, it would be a disgrace for us to allow the sacrifices of our men and women of the military to have been in vain. I believe that “shining city on a hill” that President Reagan spoke about is still there, still achievable and still the light in an otherwise dark world. I hope you will take the time to remember our veterans in the many scheduled Veterans Programs and Parades in the coming week. We owe a debt to these men and women that we can never pay, but we can take time to stop and simply say, “thank you for your service.” Bill Wright |
