I'm for Colin Powell, former Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He's a combat tested career Soldier who takes no smack, stands on his own conscience and can effectively deal with anyone based on his rock solid worldwide reputation. We need a dependable steady hand to lead us out of this increasingly messy situation we're finding ourselves getting deeper and deeper into so for me it's one of our own.

I know who I wouldn't choose. I would NEVER choose a backstabber. Anyone who would turn on another, especially on politics, would turn on anyone. I did like Powell though, before he abandoned his principles, over race. Yes! In my opinion, if Obama were white, Powell would have never endorsed him, with that pathetic record of experience.

I would like see someone in office that was loyal, made good judgements and who could surround themself with people they could trust. Not sure who that might be right now. There are a lot of good options, to the current CiC.

I do have a question for you. If that is what you think are good qualities, how on earth could you support someone who has none of them? Or are you bringing this up because you already see that we need to make these decisions on the 2012 election? Wink

PS: The problem with Powell, is he's already 72 years old. He will be near 80 before he has another shot, unless he runs in 2010 but that's highly unlikely. He supported Obama; how could he then run against him, unless he admints to making a mistake on that endorsement. And admitting you were horribly wrong on who would be qualified as CiC isn't a good election slogan.

Although he is dead, I liked Teddy Roosevelt for his approach to foreign policy...
and another former...Harry Truman for having the balz to man up for everything...

In past presidents,

Ronald Reagan!

For those not yet tested,

Sara Palin!

I don't want to hear no crap from you on this!
Her head and heart are in the right place. (And so are several other parts!) Big Grin

Ips, for the last time I voted for McCain which is well documented in my past posts and threads so I'm not addressing this again. Look back and you'll read how I've always said and will say again that I felt President Obama was way too young and inexperienced to take the helm at this time. Again, perhaps in eight years with some seasoning in the Senate he would have been ready but it's all a mute point now.

John McCain was an admiral select when he stepped down for politics so he's got the military experience and time in grade in Washington politics and the world stage to be more prudent in his decisions. So for the last time once and for all - never again, John got my vote because he's the best of the two at that time based on his experience and record.

While I understand your points about Powell, I would indeed vote for him in 2011 given his age because I still believe he's the strongest of all to lead us out of this quagmire.

Governor Palin is no joke in my book either. Like Obama she's still very untried in the world arena so if she gains senate or at least credible congressional experience I'll give her a hard look at that time. But for now I believe we've got to play to our strengths otherwise we'll just sink deeper and deeper into dreamland with no real tangible way out.

Just because I'm not a conservative Republican doesn't mean I won't vote for a strong candidate who will be good for our Country. Does the term "Reagan Democrats" still mean anything to anyone? Ol' Dutch thought so. Wink

Mitt Romney;

Wants to establish a flat tax, same tax rate for everyone regardless of compensation and thinks that politicians salaries should be voted on by that politicians constituents. So if you $uck, you get no pay raise and possibly even a reduction. By this standard with all of 'Bama's undecisive present votes during his short tenor previous to the oval office, he'd have been the lowest paid member in D.C.

Besides, being a governor before president is the best experience anyone could have. Each state is eccentially it's own little country, with a budget to balance and a military at the Governor's disposal. So make no mistakes, regardless of how they may insult Palin, she ran a state, which is a hell of a lot more than 99% of the flunkies in D.C. could do.
