Regarding the Gubernatorial races....

VA-R (Not a blow out, but not pretty)

NJ-D (Close)

NY State races...

D (upset, by a hair-not a good thing for the dems-losing marketsharein the "Empire State" is not a good thing for 2010)

Maine Same Sex marriage...

Passes to allow same sex couples to marry.

just my take...

I think it's always hard for anyone to admit a mistake. I think we are going to see Americans admitting that, this election.

It will be a sign to come. When you give this much power to one party, and they botch it, within 6 months, there's trouble ahead.

NJ will be "KEY". Obama went all out and pulled out all stops to put his brand behind the Democrat. If he loses that's a sign that cannot be ignored.

Just my take...

If it turns out to be double digits, that's a blow out in my book.

I agree Ips!

If Christie wins, it will give many Blue Dog democrats pause on the health care fight.

Here's 4 I'm watching:
quote:
New York's 23rd Congressional District

Why it matters: A conservative backlash against a moderate Republican candidate propelled this race into national headlines as proof of an ongoing family feud between the far right and moderates for control of the party.

What's the story?: Local Republican leaders picked Dede Scozzafava because of her appeal to centrist Republicans, independents and even some Democrats. But it sparked a conservative revolt, and Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman outpolled Scozzafava, forcing her to withdraw. Scozzafava has since endorsed Democrat Bill Owens.
My Comment: This will signal whether the party might swing moderate or conservative. The mere fact that conservative Republicans forced out the moderate, is important. They might not get victory but it shows who has the force. The "moderate" was forced out.
quote:
Virginia governor

Why it matters: This race is seen as an early referendum on voters' attitudes toward President Obama and his policies and an opportunity for Republicans to turn back recent Democratic gains.

What's the story?: Obama was the first Democrat to win a presidential contest in Virginia since the 1960s, and the last two governors have been Democrats. Polls show Republican Bob McDonnell with a double-digit lead.
My Comment: Double-digit is quite the referendum.
quote:
New Jersey governor

Why it matters: A moderate third-party candidate could split the Republican vote and give an unpopular Democratic incumbent a second term.

What's the story?: Gov. Jon Corzine trailed Republican challenger Chris Christie during the summer, but recent polls show them in a dead heat. Growing support for independent Chris Daggett might be siphoning votes away from Christie.
My Comment: If Christie wins, in the face of a 3rd party taking votes, it will be huge. This too will show that conservatives are taking back.
quote:
Atlanta, Georgia, mayor

Why it matters: Thirty-five years of African-American control of the mayor's office could end in Georgia's capital city.

What's the story?: White City Councilwoman Mary Norwood is the front-runner in this nonpartisan race between her and chief competitors City Council President Lisa Borders and former state lawmaker Kasim Reed. Incumbent Shirley Franklin, limited to two terms, recently said she is voting for Reed.
There are probably more important elections across the country. But these are a few that I am following to see if there is a message from Americans, regarding too much power by one party and regret for past elections.

I'm looking at these to see if these point to 2010.

While I will cede that a doube digit (10.1%+) final WIN is a blow out...polls do not elect people.

BTW, I voted McDonnell...voter turnout, when I was there around 1545 in Norfolk, at least in my district, was a trickle.

The poll worker would not give me numbers of voters who voted.

We may well see our first case of major election fraud in NJ...
quote:
It is "very easy" to steal an election using absentee ballots, claims Jan Tyler, a former Denver Elections Commissioner who now runs the website National Election Reform Examiner. She said some people shoveling her driveway, for example, told her they knew that "six or seven absentee ballots were sent to dead people," and she fears the numbers across the country could be much larger than experts believe and that prosecutors do not take infractions seriously enough.

Fox News has found ongoing allegations of absentee ballot fraud in at least a dozen states involving recent elections, including contests this year. 38 ballots from this past September’s primary were thrown out by a judge in Troy, New York in an on going ballot fraud case that could lead to criminal prosecutions. Both Democrats and Republicans are accusing each other of illegal election activities there. And in New Jersey, where the race between Democrat incumbent Governor Jon Corzine and Republican challenger Chris Christie is extremely close, there have recently been a rash of absentee ballot related arrests in two local races. This comes as officials say about 2,300 absentee ballot applications do not match the signatures of those voters' registration cards, raising concerns about voter integrity or possible suppression on Tuesday. 19 people have been indicted this year for absentee ballot fraud related charges in elections in Atlantic City and Newark, and one campaign worker has plead guilty.

One of the nation's leading officials who has led the fight against voter registration fraud is the Secretary of State of Nevada, Ross Miller. He told Fox News "you have to have safeguards in the system, which we do," in his state. His office broke the case against ACORN, the troubled activist group, allegedly engaged in voter registration fraud in Las Vegas during the 2008 election. Those allegations have now lead to the first criminal case against ACORN itself, where ACORN and a former official will face trial in April. While Miller, a Democrat, says people must be held accountable and that there should be "aggressive prosecutions," where wrongdoing is found, he says of absentee ballot fraud that "overall across the country, I don't think it’s widespread."

Both Mr. Miller and Ms. Tyler appeared on Fox News Channel to discuss voter issues on the eve of Tuesday's election.
If the NJ race is close, it will get ugly. My prediction, if it's close, is that Obama will try to influence the counting (by way of "his" justice dept), which would be an abuse of office. What happens in NJ is NJ's business. Obama has already meddled in at least 2 or 3 other states, to influence the outcome of state politics.

America is looking more and more like a 3rd world country, when it comes to politics. Democrats have succeded in dividing this country to the point it's near impossible to have confidence in an election. AND NO, it's not equally applicable to both parties. Whenever there is fraud (or funny business to be PC) found, Democrat politicians are almost always the ones who benefit.

The Dem won in NY. UPSET! lol 3 out of 4 predictions ain't bad!

Do republicans really want to alienate/witch hunt moderates like Dick Armey says since moderates/the middle gave the wins in VA and NJ?

hmmmm.....

Wrong again Rob.

Maine voters reject gay-marriage law!

Gay marriage has now lost in every single state, 31 in all, which it has been put to a popular vote.

And I know how that breaks your heart...

Who are you calling a moderate?

She is about as liberal as you can get!

Once again your political savvy is shown for what it is ......

I've said this before and I'll say it again. Getting a PC answer about gay marriage is one thing when you ask citizens but when you ask them to vote; they vote the truth.

Fact is the majority still see gay lifestyle as something they oppose. And when you try and equate a gay relationship with "marriage" you will always run into stiff opposition.
quote:
Maine same-sex marriage vote: Gay marriage repealed

Voters repealed the state's same-sex law, according to the Bangor (Maine) Daily News.

With 87 percent of precincts reporting, nearly 53 percent of voters chose to reject the law, with more than 47 percent voting to retain it, according to the Daily News.

When Gov. John Baldacci signed the legislation on May 6, he did so knowing there was a possibility that voters could overturn it. In September, opposition groups delivered the necessary signatures to get a vote.
Conservativism won big this election. Even in the election Republicans lost, conservativism was preferred over moderates. So this is a sign for Republicans to get back to conservativism basics. Republicans do need to pull together but it's conservatie values that needed.

2010 is looking good.

I called ME early...

eh, I honestly do not know alot about her, but she was called a moderate...

I still think that it was a small fracture of the party, but not conservativism.

quote:
And I know how that breaks your heart...

and no, doesn't break my heart...

hell, I went out on a limb and made some predictions...people can be wrong...

Conservative basics are good, for my vote, as long as the religious right is not involved. I prefer fiscal conservatism over social conservatism, and that is why I voted (R) in VA. The candidate did not push abortion and other classic social conservatism BS (at least in my book).

But...I still find it early to call 2010 after a few states.

Agreed!

I wholeheartedly agree!

This puts tremendous pressure on the Obama administration to ram through health Care this year.

And the bad news for Dems is that Reed said last night that it probably won't come up this year. If it doesn't go through this year, it most likely won't pass vote, and if it doesn't James Carvel said, “the Dems will be in for huge losses in the next election.”

Time will tell ...

This is why I said republicans need a message and GOOD IDEAS...they cannot afford to squander this chance/momentum.

Bob McDonnell in VA had GOOD IDEAS.

Deeds the dem, had ZILCH!

McDonnell got my vote!

I can and have vote for a republican, if they have GOOD IDEAS! This is the reason they won VA!
