Basic Training |
Good morning,
I am currently a Police Officer with the US Capitol Police and am interested in joining the Military Reserves. In terms of the Air Force I wanted to ask if the AF offers any condensed training courses for Law Enforcement. I know the Coast Guard does for the Port Security Specialists. Does anyone know if a program like this exists for the AF as well? Thanks in advance! |

No, there is no condensed course because the AF Security Forces tech school doesn't focus a whole bunch on law enforcement. Not as much as one would expect anyway. A lot of it is Air Base Ground Defense (ABGD).
Unless you have prior "combat arms" experience coupled with your law enforcement background, there is little possibility of bypassing the SF tech school. As an example, I was an infantryman in the Army, both active duty and in the guard, with deployment experience. Additionally, I am a cop. Together, the Air Force, or the Air National Guard in my case, decided that both of my experiences and training meet the requirements for a waiver of SF tech school. That said, a guy in my squadron is former Navy (aviation type) and a civilian cop. He was required to attend AF SF tech school. Unless your specific reserve/national guard unit can pull some strings, chances are you'll be spending 13 to 14 weeks at Lackland AFB with some very young airmen, some of which have little to no desire to be in the training. |
