what kind of schools are you talking about going to. Depending on the school, there must be a need, and you must qualify to go there first.

Most of the time you will need your unit to fund attendance. It's not the course they fund it's the travel and per diem associated. That usually comes out of your units O&M budget.

However, sometimes your MAJCOM will be given some funded course quotas. Then the AF (AETC) foots the bill. The MAJCOM has to forecast for the school quotas just like they do for money if they have identified the requirement.

Sometimes you can get a course quota in the 30 day window prior to the class start date if another MAJCOM or the Army fails to fill that class. Then your UTM can submit your name as an Out Of Cycle Request to the MAJCOM functional (TRQI) who can try and capture the course seat that is in jepoardy of going unfilled.

Remember, if there is a possibility you can get one of these quotas to ensure your unit is willing to fund it before your UTM submits for the course quota.

The biggest factor is who has priority; especially for a course like Jump school as an example.

Hope that answers your question. Your best bet as mentioned above is to contact your UTM and let them know which course you want to attend. Then they work the issue as best they can. If the commander says he's not willing to fund a course for you then you'll just have to live with it. It's his/her budget and they have to use it wisley as most units are doing more with less and less these days.

Which I would think is on the line of SpecOps schools. Can't think of other schools, where mission requirement would fit as well with Security Forces. You would have to be getting into a SOCOM unit at Eglin/Hurlburt, Alaska, or Kirtland for that type of training.
Speaking of which; I just watched a couple of Air Force guys going through the Army's HALO school for SpecOps on the Military Channel. Pretty cool and demanding.
Maybe, if you could be a little more specific with your intentions?

There are quite a few Army courses that are Security Forces requirements.

Military Police Investiagtor Course & Protective Services Course, both at Fort Leonard Wood.

The 820th Security Forces Group has quite a few "Jump billets" that require Airborne attendence.

Those are just off the top of my head, but I'm sure there are a couple more I'm forgetting that are unique to Security Forces attending Army schools.

Great info. Glad you could pass this on. The only other Branch going through, when I did, was Marines. They weren't smart enough to train their own people in Law Enforcement, so the Army had to. Big Grin

Why re-invent the wheel and spend time, effort, manpower and money duplicating training when the Army does it already?

I say it's just good buisness.

On that note, I think we all need to go to the same MP school. Why not just expand the capacity of the school, and send all the branches to the same school. If they wanted to, they could take it one further and just call it a DoD school (same principle as K9 school). Then at the end, each service could add their own little 2 week (or however long) spin or specialized training.
