to start off , I am NOT SF!

Ok, now that i have cleared that up..

Whats up with the SF guys and their barrets? They all look like ****!!!! its sad to see the AF guys next to their Army partners and the armys barrets look sharp, and the air forces guys' looks like a$$.. i dont get it..

theres this one guy that wears his barret on the side of his head.. Covers his entire right eye! the kicker is his weapon is on his right thigh. Interesting..

Just a pet pieve of mine.. Its like some of the SF guys wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and say to themselves, "yep, my barret looks Amazingly retarted, time for work!"

/end rant

Ok, now that i have cleared that up.. There has to be some initial confusion before something is cleared up. Perhaps you were under the impression that you were SF and just discovered that you weren't. Good for you!

Just a pet pieve of mine..One of mine is people who can't spell peeve. Its like some of the SF guys wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and say to themselves, "yep, my barret looks Amazingly retarted, time for work!" If anyone should be looking in the mirror and thinking "retarted"...

I'd rather we wore field caps, but that's another topic all together.

HEY LOOK EVERYONE, ANOTHER IDIOT TELLING US HOW TO DO OUR JOBS!!

My daughter wears a barret, I wear a beret. Mine looks fine, thankyouverymuch. Whats up with MX guys and their uniforms? Hows come they all look like crap? Whats up with other AFSCs coming to our forum and breaking bad on us? Where is the righteous indignation?

And furthermore, A1C Schneider, if you have a problem with the way an SF troops beret looks, I suggest you man up a bit and ask him or her, to their face, what the deal is and why they look like Tony the Pizza guy, instead of hiding behind the internet. They may not be aware that it looks so poorly, and they may thank you for it. On the other hand, they may beat your ass...

And K9, I agree COMPLETELY. Keep the beret for blues, gates and special occasions.

At Minot our wing commander made it mandatory for ALL cops to wear the beret while in base. So if im going out to the missile field I have to have both on me. Kinda stupid but whatever

Wow...glad to see all the nuke issues (non security related and security related) have been solved that he has time to strap this one on.

In any event, the largest issue with the SF beret is the s.h.i.t.t.y manufacturer. If someone decent produced it, it would look half way decent when you put it on.

As long as we are discussing aesthetics, downsize the flash a bit...it doesnt need to be 8x8, you know? Let it ride a little lower, almost like the Brits do...

Why yes, there IS an AFI on how to wear barret(tes) and a beret. It's called AFI 36-2903 "DRESS AND PERSONAL APPEARANCE OF AIR FORCE PERSONNEL."

Perhaps you've heard of it?

So, to answer your question, SF guys really should not be wearing barret(tes) since they are authorized only in the W-Women Hair style. But SF gals can:

quote:
Allow the wear of conservative hairpins, combs, headbands, elastic bands and barrettes. Hair pins and bands must match hair color.

Since you are asking about berets. Even if - as most of us have mentioned - you don't know how to spell the word. The rules are:

quote:
Position headband straight across the forehead, 1 inch above the eyebrows. Drape the top over the right ear and the stiffener. Align cloth flash above the left eye. Adjust ribbon for comfort, tie in a knot, and tuck inside or cut-off (see notes 1 and 7). Continue to wear SF shield and beret together while attending professional military education and recruiting duties.

1. The SF full cloth flash will be sewn to the center of the stiffener, with hook and loop (Velcro backing) for ease of change out for cleanliness of the flash, ¼ inch above and parallel to the headband. Enlisted personnel wear the SF flash with SF insignia. Officers wear the plain (no insignia) SF flash, and affix regular size bright metal grade insignia centered on the flash. Wear while in garrison with all authorized uniforms. Wear BDU cap when a subdued appearance is required, or while in the field. SF personnel do not wear organizational baseball caps (those prescribed in Table 2.2. and Table 2.4.); this does not include caps worn to identify SF patrols.

7. Worn only by SF personnel assigned to officer Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) 31PX and enlisted AFSCs 3P0XX/A/B (or augmentees performing security forces duties when authorized by the Chief of Security Forces). EXCEPTION: Do not wear the shield with the Mess Dress Uniform. SF personnel working duty-out-of-control (i.e., SF member not assigned to a 31PX or 3P0XX billet) will not wear a SF [b]beret[b] or shield).

Reading is fundamental. So is spelling.

there’s this one guy that wears his cook hat on the side of his head.. Covers his entire right eye! the kicker is his spatula is in his right hand. Interesting..

Just a pet peeve of mine.. Its like some of the services guys wake up in the morning, look in the mirror and say to themselves, "yep, my cook hat looks Amazingly retarded, time for work!"

wow.. You guys are pretty touchy, i guess maybe i came off a little harsh with my question.

I appologize for not spelling "beret" correctly. I will go through and check my spelling from now on.

And I have asked him about his beret. His response was "This job sucks, I dont care what my beret looks like". I asked the TSgt in charge of STAR training, and he said that there is no clear-cut way on how wear the beret.

And i will agree with you when you say most SVS personell look like A$$. 90% of SVS has NO military bearing, and Dont really care what they look like. This is why i am cross-training.

I was never saying every SFS personell wear's their beret wrong or like A$$. Just alot of them on Ramstein. But then again, most SFS guys here dont like their job anyways, so thats prob. why.

Didnt want to start any bad feelings or anything, just figured i would ask a question. next time i guess I will think about how I ask it for a little longer.

v/r

Not touchy, just proud.

And you said "Whats up with the SF guys and their barrets? They all look like ****!!!!" Now you say you didnt call us all out? If this were a court of law, you would have just perjured yourself...(Help me out civilian Coppers...I got that right, right?)

Dont x-train into this AFSC.

And Ramstein has some of the proudest SF troops I have ever seen. I spent 3.5 years training them, and although there are certainly some slackers, there are also some of the finest SF troops in the AF there.

Maybe next time you should ask something like "Hey guys, few of the Cops I see wear the beret in a consistent style, and some are quite frankly, dirty and unserviceable. Is there an AFI that direct the proper wear of the beret? Just for my info?"

Or just stay out of "our" forum.

Just thought I'd give the guy a taste of his own medicine, since he is a services troop. Eek

No more airman cooks?? Is there anything that’s military in the AF anymore?
Civilian cops, civilian cooks, what’s next civilian base commanders Big Grin

You got it right, Johnny.

3MX, regardless of what that airman said or what his beret looked like, the fact remains, he drew his weapon from the armory that day, stood his post and ensured your safety on base that day. Maybe he was one of the few that enlisted open general and got sent to SF and that’s why he said his job sucks. While I'll admit, I don't know what that feels like, since I was one of the "crazy" ones that actually only wanted SF when I enlisted. Either way that airman does his job and that is all you should be concerning yourself with, not on how his beret looks!!

We have civilian unit commanders here at Eddies...one even had charge of a formation awhile ago for a change of command. How far off could it be?

I believe they're Directors and not commanders. But more importantly they do not hold UCMJ authority.

You are correct on the term...but they fill the same role. For the most part their units are civilian anyway...

Understood.

Just clarifying for those who haven't had the joy of being at an AFMC base.

I was at Tinker many moons ago and when the Center CC changed out we even had a "formation" of civilians. The "uniform of the day" was black pants and white polo shirts.
