You're an outdoor guy??

You're complaining about Utah???

Dude...they held the freaking winter Olympics in Salt Lake City!!

How much more outdoor do you need??

Besides...now you can marry a nice Mormon girl and have lots of kids

Yeow...this is where expectations meet reality

First it’s an AFMC base (A Friggin Million Civilians) so you'll spend your time getting the work force on base, guarding the fighter wing and deploying.

Second, I’ve not been stationed at Hill (been TDY…nice place)…but I’ve been to two other Air Logistics Centers (Sacramento and OKC…and they’re about the same except for location).

As for time on the road...as an NCO...probably when you upgrade, I'd expect. But then just standby for the union complaints when you write a ticket to a member of bargaining unit (i.e., union employee)...see under the union contract SF are not law enforcement...they're "agents of management."

Bottomline you’re going to a “unique” place…and I mean unique on many fronts.

A little off the original post, but I was LE in the 80s at Kelly AFB. It was Air Force Logistics Command then, and as stated above we were practically overrun with civilian employees. It seemed like every rule we had contained an exception to keep the civilians happy.

We were forbidden to write a civilian employee a DD Form 1805 (Traffic Citation). It seems their unions complained that the practice was discriminatory.

We issued military members the DD Form 1408 (Military Traffic Citation). It cost them points on their driving record and they had to see their commander or 1st Sgt for possible disciplinary action. The 1805 actually cost the civilians money in the form of fines.

The civilians argued that we were discriminating against them because they had to pay money for a speeding ticket when a military member only lost points and got a LOR for speeding.

As a result, we could only issue 1408s for traffic violations. The civilians lost a point and basically laughed it off. Their civ. supervisors never cared. The only exception was a civilian DUI. Those went on the 1805.

They knew every loop hole and exploited them.

Hill shouldnt be too bad. Its been bout two years since I was last there. I lived in Salt Lake for a few years when I got out of the AF. If you like to ski, climb, camp or anything outdoors, its a good place to be. Hill is in Ogden, which is bout a 30 min or less drive to SLC. Plent to do there. Ive been deployed with some cats from Hill and they were good people. you should like it.
