Somewhere Curtis LeMay is spinning in his grave over the idea that a bunch of computer desk jockeys have taken his emblem...

Here, something that doesn't reach out and smack you in the face. That is one huge image.

Come on you cant desecrate SAC by turning the shield to the cyber command. Use a shield with a big computer screen or router on it. lol

Thanks Stonewall, it didn't let me edit the image, so I'm nuking it.

I like the side by side comparison, it works much better.

Resentment at proposed Cyber Command patch

Cyber Command’s new emblem can’t be anointed officially until the new command is stood up this October, but the one in the works replicates the former Strategic Air Command’s patch.

Only “minor modifications” have been made to the SAC emblem to create AFCYBER’s design and “bring it up to current Air Force emblem standards,” according to service documents.

“By assuming the lineage of the Strategic Air Command, cyber-warriors demonstrate the ability to project strength and achieve global effects with the inclusion of the cyberspace domain, with air and space,” according to lineage and heritage records.

But that striking similarity to Strategic Air Command’s patch has started a controversy. Former airmen who served under SAC have posted on multiple Internet blogs their displeasure at the almost identical designs.

“I respect the fact that our ‘cyber warriors’ are a critical asset in our force structure, but in my opinion they should wear a patch of their own design, not one lifted from a previous generation,” said retired Col. Ron Thurlow via e-mail.

I've never been assigned to SAC, but that's still as wrong as Michael Jackson in a room full of little boys.

There certainly needs to be a lightning bolt motif (I learned that on "Trading Spaces"), representing the "Reins of Command" (borrowed from AF Communications Command); I guess the olive branch belongs, somewhere. The iron glove SHOUTS SAC, so I'd call that element a non-starter. A globe would work well, representing the global mission of the new command. A magnifying glass could be featured prominently, given its mission to be vigilant against bad guys (not even gonna get into the symbology of spying on its own).

Yeah, there's lots of other things they could do, other than co-opt what should belong ONLY to SAC.

Happy to be here, proud to serve.

I THINK A PATCH WITH A PICTURE OF STEVE IRKEL WOULD FIT THEIR IMAGE THE BEST. Big Grin

BUT LEAVE THE SACRED SAC PATCH ALONE. Angry Whip

Hmm looks like someone in a position of authority has never heard of AFI 84-105, Organizational Lineage, Honors and Heraldry

"2.1. Lineage. Lineage is the unique, official, traceable record of organization actions peculiar to each Air
Force organization; therefore, it is the sole determinant of an organization’s rights to history, honors, and
emblems. It allows the Air Force to avoid confusing one organization with another.
2.1.1. A current organization may have begun its existence with a different number, designation, echelon,
or all three, but lineage traces all changes to its current designation.
2.1.2. Organizations may not use identical function, transfer of personnel, or similarity of designation
of other organizations to claim those organizational histories, awards, and emblems. Such relationships
to previous organizations and continuity of missions may be explained in history pamphlets, displays,
and similar presentations.
2.1.3. The lineages of permanent organizations are continuous. Neither inactivation nor disbandment
terminates a permanent organization’s lineage or heraldry.
2.1.4. The lineages of provisional organizations terminate when the organization is inactivated. They
cannot be revived.
2.1.4.1. Exception: Permanent organizations that USAF/DPMO converts to provisional status and
redesignates as expeditionary may revert to permanent status (see para 2.2.2. below).
2.1.5. The history, honors, and emblem of one organization may not be permanently transferred to
another except that

2.1.5.1. Honors earned by the supported expeditionary organizations may be conferred on aligned
major force provider permanent organizations (see para.2.2.1.below). Conferral allows honors
earned by the supported expeditionary organization to be preserved and displayed by the major
force provider permanent organization as its own

The armored gauntlet isn't something new to a cyber avatar. I have to agree though, it's wrong to take a symbol, I was a part of for my first Air Force enlistment, and disgrace it. Just like I think it was wrong to take the 305th ARFEW from Grissom and move it to a MAC base under the new MAW designation, where they don't even have KC-135s.
Having a CRT with antennas and lightning bolts would be more appropriate. Wink

Wow, in an age of cyber piracy, identity theft, Intellectual Property theft/re-branding and general slander and libel, you would think that the organization who is to have vast control and effectiveness on the net would start by abiding by Air Force instructions. Time to show my Pa and make some calls.

You can't help, but still feeling sorry for the last guy to taxi off the Christmas tree. You know his butt was going to get chewed, along with a less than favorable mark on his records. The dreaded LOC. Eek

Ha! It's slow here too. No one has had a crisis all day. Those flicks are a great way to kill time, and some of them are really good.
