Im currently deployed, recieved orders, and will be PCS-ing to Spangdahlem from Altus AFB, OK in the near future. If anyone has any information regarding the area, base, squadron, dorms (no dependants), and the gym, I'd very much appreciate it.

Well Spangdahlem is a small base. You can get to the BX, Commissary, BK, subway, or shoppette within a few minutes from the dorms. It rains a lot, and it's starting to get cold. Bitburg is about twenty minutes away, and Trier is about 40. Luxembourg is about an hour, and many other places are a few hours. I suggest saving some money for a vehicle, or shipping yours here, as we are in the middle of nowhere. You'll have to get a USAREUR license before you can drive here to. The squadron is pretty laid back, at least my flight. We just got a new commander a few months back, so he's changing a few things. The dorms are alright. It's just loud at times, especially when your sleeping. The dorms all have a shared kitchen and bathroom. The e club is just across from the dorms to. I suggest that if you're a SRA, or above that you live off base. The gym is nice, plenty of equipment, and they're redoing the gym floor.

Hey, thanks alot, squirrel.
If you or anyone else has any info about the flights (schedules, typical postings, LE vs IBD) or any other job/SQ. related things, I'd really appreciate it.

Just tryin to get as much info before showing up. I dont want to get to Spang blind as a bat

Be quiet, sit down, and color.

There's a fairly recent thread on the AF General Discussion Forum re: PCS'ing to Ramstein. There's a lot of information there that would also apply to Spang--general information about being in Germany. I spent four years at Ramstein and loved being in Germany. No, I wasn't a cop, but most of the information there still applies.

Happy to be here, proud to serve.

I was at Hahn back in the day. That was across the river from Spangdahlem. Close to all the summer wine fest's on the Mosel ( one of the best wine regions in the world), and the Wittlich pig fest. I think you'll have a good time there.

We are switching to Panama 12's soon. By the time you get here we will be in them. I can't say where you will work, because I don't know what your qualified to do. From what I'm told, this base is a little backwards compared to other bases. As gmcneill said, there are a lot of festivals around here. And the mall BX thing at Ramstein or K-town just opened up to.

they have set up a program very recentally that allows you to take a portion of your drivers testing online prior to moving which makes things go faster in terms of getting your liscene in any usafe base. your current base should have information on how to do this.
