From what I understand the 23rd is the le squadron of the base. There is also the 820 sfg thier which is made up of the 822, 823, and 823 sfs.

I'd stay the hell away from Moody just because of the off chance they'd be like "Hey we have too many people in the SFS lets let the 820th have them."

I see people get passed from squadron to squadron all the time at FE Warren so you never know.

I was assigned there before the 820th arrived. I left as they were coming.

Unless things have changed, You will likely deploy a lot. I left for Saudi Arabia within a month of signing in. I had come from Korea, so I was not pleased with them.

Hopefully, the 820th has taken some of the burden of deployments.

Good luck.

Good luck doing ALL the base dutys while the 820th guys watch...they do a lot of "training" and NONE of the real cop work on base. Dont be supprised to have them look way down there noses at you for ONLY being a SF troop. Still its warm most of the time, and valdasta has some things to do...best of luck.

The way I understood it was that was the point. 23rd does the base stuff and the 820th trains for deployments.

Thats TRUE but the 23rd also deploy's but with out all the super secret training or equiptment. Sorry just gripping..I fell this unit (820) is a waste of manpower and funds. They got what? Three squadrons that only train and deploy...and most cops do base duties then deploy right along side them....what a waste of bodies...OH yea HORAA 820th!!!

They train for different missions than the typical cop does for deployments. I know regular SF is doing more convoys and missions and what not, but their deployments consist of a lot different missions than what regular SF does. Unless you are a regular sf and go to jump school, ranger school, sniper school, etc. than you shouldn't be doggin on them.

I am very curious about what they do also. I have done four deployments to Iraq since 2004. I fly on MC-130's and have hauled every unit in the DOD that has a special mission. I can't ever recall hauling anything for the 820th...ever. Our missions drop down with the helo missions too, and I can honestly say I have never seen the Paves tasked to support them either. I am very curious as to what they do that requires so much training around their deployed base? If we aren't hauling them, and the the helo's aren't, they aren't doing much airborne anything. Tell me they aren't getting all that extra training so they can man guard stations for housing area's.

I remember back when the 820th was at Lackland. Talk about "Cop Heaven" I guess. Including the base cops, you also had the tech school, the huge confinement facility, K9 school house, and the HQ AFSFC and the battlelab. Cops coming out of every crevice!!

Hey Mudvayne, is that a guitar you are holding in your pic? If so, what kind is it?

I was at Osan during 2006. Best assignment I ever had.
