First keep in mind CRGs are not operated by the AF they are operated by MAJCOMs. There is a big difference...which would take minutes to explain but hours to get you to understand or concede the point on. Nevertheless, there is a difference.

Second, CRGs are operated by AMC, USAFE and PACAF. Each of these commands do unique things with their CRGs. Ideally, one would think they would all look and operate the same but at the end of the day they don't. The ones in AMC do, but USAFE and PACAF are unique unto themselves.

Now, back to your question. No, not really.

PACAF CRG is just fine for now. USAFE CRG was just redesignated from the 86 CRG to the 486th (or some such number) CRG...so again, just fine. AMC CRGs, reasonably certain they're good to go, but I believe they're going to restructure the organizations.

At the end of the day, someone has to do the air base opening mission (note: didn't say air base seizure) and in theory, that's what a CRG does. Also, for those not familiar with CRGs, they are not SF centric units. However, and part of what makes PACAF and USAFE CRGs different from AMC CRGs, is the fact that there are SF squadrons in those CRGs and the MAJCOM RTC falls under that unit. This does not happen in AMC CRGs.

Yeah i was just tossing the question around. To see if someone had any insight into the root of this rumor sounds like a "restructure" could be confused for closing or stoping CGR. Your response makes sense and im aware they do differnt things. Thanks for the input

They CRGs are alive and well. I know they just did a huge round of hirings in the loadmaster career field for the CRGs. That doesn't mean they won't close them, but it isn't the actions of a soon to be closed unit.

FLOOD,
Its a necroposting here but.... Just spoke to a few highers from the Center and the Pentagon about this issue. No they are not diminishing at all. The career field was attempting to set up another 820th structured group on the West/East coast but that got nixxed a while ago. Funding of course.

Not to sure if that may have been what the scuttlebutt was at the time. Hope it helps....
