I admit,I was one of the "gullable" ones. I went in Open General not thinking I could get Security Forces, but ended up getting it. Even though I had no desire to do that, I tried to make the best out of it.
I was picked on during boot camp because I came in Open General and was told that I was getting Security Forces during zero week by other Airmen and also TI's. My first duty station was Ramstein, Germany. I thought the teasing and name calling would stop since I was now apart of the "working Air Force", but it didn't. I had the honor of working security during Freedom Fest and had numerous people saying that SF is a "joke" and that "you must not have scored high enough on the ASVAB". When I would tell girls that I was in the Air Force, they'd be more interested, when I told them what I did in the Air Force, they stopped being interested. I'm the type of person that doesnt let things get to me to the point of going off on someone. It just seemed that I was harrassed my whole 4 years in. Not that I was a dirt bag Airman or anything, my uniform was always up to standards, boots highly shined, and haircut within regs. Never had any kind of verbal or written complaints |

Peopel mock that which they do not understand or are intimidated by...as you get higher in the ranks, the crap stops as people mature and become more professional.
...well, some of it stops, the rest becomes more good natured, and you can hit back with knowledge of what they do. |

Someone made fun of me being an EGG once, then Chuck Norris appeared and roundhouse kicked them into another dimension. I think the people that would rag on cops are the ones who can't handle getting screamed at on the range by CATM the one time they fire every three years. Not to mention they probably don't know a whole heck of a lot about the breadth of knowledge you have to use just to be 'functional'. I wouldn't sweat getting ragged by someone, but I've been around long enough to throw some serious shat right back at anyone that tries.

Funny. Outside of PJ, CCT, TACP and CbtWX I've always figured most of the AF wouldn't last a week in SF.
First time they missed a 1 hour lunch, going to the BX or had to come in at their 0200 on a Saturday (albeit it was a weekday break day)for an appointment in uniform they'd go screaming back to mommy. |

I remember during the 80s some 6th AirCav guys giving us a hard time in Germany where we were supporting a joint A-10/Cobra exercise. Come shift change, when they saw us unloading our weapons they went:
"They give you guys bullets!!??" "Yep, 240. You?" "No, the Sergeant keeps them all" That ended the ragging. And I always enjoyed all those smart-a$$ airmen that always ragged cops who - somehow - always seemed to end up as auggies... |

on the side of the girls not liking you (i'm married to SF,)
the ones who want nothign to do with you when you say your SF are either tag chasers looking for a man with a 9-5. want a man they ca control with a snap of their fingers or they might have an idea about the schedules you keep and are too lazy to make it work. or they are just a waste of space and don't care about the person you are by the job you have (kinda like women who only date docs or lawyers) i wouldnt worry about that part, women are fickel. and the low ranking dirt bag airmen are usually the ones mocking SF i have noticed, don't worry something will come and bite them in the ass one day, karma is a wonderful thing |

People are making fun of you cause your SF? Who? I want names and AFSC!!
You on Ramstein? Don't dirty up my Security Forces by taking that BS. Tell them to shove it, better yet if it's too much for you, introduce them to your SNR LDRS and Commanders and let them tell the no good a$$-wipes what they think. Dude, don't tell me SF guys and gals have lost that no-nonsense strut! Stand proud! Raz |

Best come-back I saw (I was Army MP) was while we were patroling a ski area a G.I. who was with his (much older) shack job loudly stated "oh, look at the big bad MPs". My buddy told him "hope you and your mom have a good time skiing today". End of conversation.

haven't had any issues yet.... I'm still in DEP, leave right after christmas for BMT. So far whenever anyone asks what my job is (SF CATM) they have a shocked look and usually say something like "damn" or "that's badass". I rly want to do Special Ops, but have a w9 waiver and figured SF is the closest i can get.

While I never openly poked fun, I can't help but laugh at the SF tech schoolers on Lackland in their skin-tight Underarmor "Security Forces" shirts, Lacrosse "SF" shorts, arm band CAC holder, dog tags hanging out and Camelback on back...OFF BASE!
Other than my time in the Infantry in the Army, I have pretty much always been involved in a security related job. Whether you're in AF Security Forces, an ocean front resort security director or on a protecting a VIP, security is often looked at as goons who think they're untouchable, are all brawn and no brains, above the law and an overall hassle to the rest of the mission. I have a friend who is an AFSOC MC-130 pilot. He is constantly telling me about his run-ins with SF, like when he's on an alert mission in A-Stan and SF guys are demanding line badges. It's always like "I know it's your jobs, but come on guys, you know me by my face...we're trying to get airborne". |

I find this whole thing a little strange, I always looked at Law Enforcement with Respect. I mean anybody that is willing to put themselves in harms way to protect others deserves respect. I know there are jerks out there but this thread kind of makes it seem like a common thing for SF to be "made fun of". I live in NY and I have seen people try and taunt police, usually it backfires and they get taken in.

________________________________________________ I am not SF but I do respect the people who dod that job. This coming Thursday, how many warriors will be home with their family and friends while SF personnel are out guarding the gates and other posts that many warriors are not aware of. Unfortunately, this MC-130 pilot is so full of himself that he will one day kill himself and fellow crew members in an accident. As a retired aviator I was glad when SF personnel required me to show my line badge; I felt reassured that I was being handed a safe plane. One day when the MC-130 pilot matures he will realize the same thing. SF personnel, thanks for being there and doing a thankless job. |

Dude, double/triple/quadruple check that. CA is a shred out...normally you need a 5 level before you get sent there. Unless things have changed drastically.

I don't know if any of this "making fun of SF" actually goes on now or not. But when I was in, if anybody ever made fun of me or SF, I would have gone Gunny R. Lee Ermey on their a$$.... The Security guys would tell me all sorts of stories about how they would "jack people up", (putting it mildly) on the flight line for not having their flight line badges.... Receiving respect was never an issue. |
