So im really wanting to get in as SF. Reading up it seems you cant really KNOW what job your getting when you sign up, is this true? Also test taking is very very hard for me. So the ASVAB is scaring me a little. How hard is it to get a score that will get me into the SF? What I want is a carrier in Law Enforcement, so SF looked to be the best route? What do you guys thing? Whats the good and bad about it? I'm not married, I'm 24. Any tips you guys can give me. Pretty much, I'm wanting to get into LE and what is the closest thing to it in the AF?
SF performs not only LE duties, we perform base defense and installation security duties as well. The LE part of the job is an aspect that is slowly deminishing with time. The ASVAB is not too hard and the score to qualify for SF is relatively low. If you're looking into LE, SF is the best route.

As far as knowing what job your getting it’s up to you and your recruiter. I would be asking for SF apprentice guaranteed, “ON PAPER”. Don’t believe the: “Just go in open general and you will get the job you want after basic” speech. I had a buddy in basic that was promised that deal and he ended being a cook instead of a cop…..
As far as the ASVAB goes, you better get used to taking tests, especially if you want a career in LE. Almost all civilian agencies require written tests as part of their hiring process and it’s a very competitive process the folks with good to high scores get to continue in the hiring process and the rest get sent home. Also something else to keep in mind is that a college education is also fast becoming a prerequisite.
Finally, as stated previously on here, the LE mission in the AF is fast becoming a thing of the past. Those days are long gone, due to federal civilian police officers taking over that function. If you decide to enlist take whatever training you can get, take some college classes (something I wish I would have done), keep your nose clean and do what your told and maybe if things work out for you, you can punch out after your enlistment is up and get on with a civilian agency. Or, you may end liking the military lifestyle and stay in for 20 years. Either way best of luck….
That info helps ALOT! I meet with the Air Force guy tomorrow. I do have Collage back ground, its in Auto tech but still counts right? Any other pointers?
So I went and talked to them, filled out some paper work. The only think Im not sure of is the Credit stuff, I do have some stuff on there, but not to much. how picky are they?
