My most vivid memories of Camp Bullis-
1. The Huts, they were hot as hell.
2. The Cement Pool.
3. The warm water in the chow hall.
4. The Mini Exchange.

Do any of you old timers have any memories?
How about the newer Air Force Cops, what’s the best and worst thing at Camp Bullis now days?

I didn't go to Security Forces tech school as I got a waiver coming over from the Army. But I did go to Bullis while I was at CATM school earlier this year and found it to be just as hot as the rest of Texas in July.

I loved driving onto Bullis with my fellow CATM students and seeing "real training" going on by the Army medics there. There was obvious some round robin training going on OUTSIDE with medics holding some training, probably combat lifesaver school for some other soldiers. I pointed this out to my fellow airmen and explained that they were seeing the Army's version of a "classroom". In the Air Force, I have sat through powerpoint classes for land nav, self aid buddy care and even range card.

Anyway, back to Bullis. I spoke with a SrA who had been to tech school a year prior and I was shocked to learn they didn't spend a single night under the stars during 13 weeks of SF tech school. Even at Bullis, they went back to barracks at night.

We went on our DAD (Not sure what that stood for) for four or five days, I loved it, Land Nav was the best, hitting slap flairs....what a bunch of fun that was!
We had an Airman keep a slap flair, went on leave in NYC and he decided to do a slap flair in the middle of Central Park, NYPD busted him and he got kicked out of the AF real quick!!

The All Ranks Club even with the strippers who were 2nd rate! Wink

The huts with free spiders and bugs in boots and bed

The first class latrine facilites

Watching the 1982 World Series on a cr&ppy color TV and seeing my Brewers get spanked by the Cards

Almost losing my thumb to the bolt of a M60 MG but getting first rate treatment by the Army at Ft/ Sam Houston (i think that was the post)

Night Land Nav and walking my fire team into a heard of cows scaring the cr&p out of all of us

and....finally leaving after being in Texas for 6 months Big Grin

Hey! Where else could you play a game of chess with the guy next to you while you took a crap?

There was also an interesting dynamic there: the chow was awesome, but the strippers took your apetite away. Razz

Ah, Bullis in the early 80s..... Beer

Incredible chow(for the military)
Tha All Ranks- even though the strippers weren't that good, not a bad place and occasionally a good tussle broke out.
Free entertainment when somebody forgot to check under bed and in boots for critters.

Ants...

Huge freakin' ants!

And sunburn.

And chafing on my thighs.

And a female SP screaming that she'd had enough and shooting everyone in MILES gear that we brought from Kelly and saying "See, it's over. Can we go home 'cause I quit". Beeeep-beeeep-beeep-beeep....

Huge rattlesnakes. Our instructors used to kill and eat them. The all ranks club and their *****y strippers. One of our guys had it bad for one of the strippers. He was all tore up when he seen her grinding on some Army guys. She grinded on him the night before, and he was stupid in love with her.

DAD. That's a term you don't hear anymore. It stood for Distributed Area Defense.

I was at Bullis last July, must say I liked it the best as far as Security Forces academy went, However I do remember those huts, spiders, snakes and a Latrine that stunk like urine no matter how much you bleached it, don't forget the scorpions that liked to sleep in your boots! On another note the little BBQ stand by the PX, amazing bacon cheeseburgers!

Poison Ivy anybody? haha I think half our team got it, including myself which I managed to get on my thigh from sweating so much an lying prone in a patch of it with my trusty 240!! All and all great experience though, like a previous poster stated wish we could have been out in the field at night, would have been good learning. Wouldn't change a thing plenty of troops have it much worse! Good thread, and Black4Track good luck in AEF Airman, bust your ass its the most hands on knoweldge you get ears open!

Bullis-1975.....tents and only tents with the exception of the px, and head.... showers and rows of toilets. Anywho, the showers were nothing more than pipes with holes in them THAT'S IT!

Oh yeah....I rememeber me and my buddies grabbin' a "tall boy" can of beer every now and then. From what I hear nowadays about Bullis.....It's a Country Club. And that's a shame.

I just took the two week tour in July 82 but that was fun enough !Second night there something in the water didn't agree with me, six quick trips in the middle of the night to the latrine so everything could come out both ends at once .Man i was dehydrated !! The food was ok the black widows where in our hut , small scorpions in the gravel , but the worst was the army version of strippers . There was pregnant and hairy and scarry and they also kept there bikinis on ?

I went through ABGD in the Philippines at Crow Valley in the summer of 1982. We were the first cops in Space Command at the 17th SURS at San Miguel NCSP....we hooked up with some Clark AB cops and went into Crow Valley for a delightful little 2 week all expenses paid excursion into hell.

I graduated from tech school last month. Ahh, Bullis. I just remember feeling bad for the guys because they always had to walk back and forth from the huts.....but we're secretly jealous, we hear about all the fun you guys had in those things!! Big Grin
