So you're prior service or switching jobs? It's the Air Force, bring whatever you want. I'd bring my laptop, mountain bike, iPod, camera, video camera, fishing poles and whatever other recreational activity thing that would keep me happy.

im a tdy in the sf tech school. As far as bringing electronics, its up to you. your room will be at the gateway in, or possibly off base if they are too full. at the gateway, you share a bathroom and thats it. you wont stay at bullis with the pipeliners, only they do, instead you catch a bus at five thirty, then bus home at four thirty. other than the time your in class, the day is yours to do whatever you want. I would recomend your lap top, its nice to have here, and internet is free now. but the room comes with a tv, dvd, and vhs player and cable. some instructors allow cameras in training, but a lot dont. Im starting my last three days of training on monday, and grad on thurs, so there is nothing i dont know about the school at this point, feel free to ask whatever.

There where some of us TDYs that the instructors liked we had a former ranger, two guys that where army scouts and where also members of thier city SWAT team I myself an ex cav scout. We basically had a riot at bullis we drove our vehicles there and where usually off all training between 1430-1600 hrs. I rememer at bullis the instructors would ask us how we would react to a scenario we showed them and they would say thats good enough !!! The only thing the instructors will ask is that you dont get to close with the pipeliners other than that you will have a relaxing time.

Former 1st Batt guy with 2 tours in Iraq? Graduated in April or May of this year? If so, I've been hanging out with him for a few weeks now. Good guy. Good shooter.

I am about to grad the course. They usually treat the TDY's with a good bit of respect, but you still have to remember that you are a student and that you have to actually participate in the training. Some TDY's think they can just skirt it at times.

Bullis is no fun. You HAVE to catch the bus there and back except on the very last day, then you can drive.

You will absolutely HATE the down time...there's a lot. The first couple of weeks tend to drag...lots of class time.

Then you go to Area 2 or Combat Arms which is a bit more fun...but still a lot of down time.

Then you go to Area 3, do some fun high crawl, low crawl, then head out to Bullis for 3 weeks, then back to finish up.

The course is still 13 weeks long, but there is talk of extending it to 18.
