My husband is at basic training in fort sill oklahoma. He told me that i would recieve the first check on the 15th of this month and i havent recieved it yet. I called his recruiter and he said that i have to talk to my husband about it but the problem is i havent talked to him in over a week! I wrote him a note and told him but it takes four days to get out there to him and then four days to get a response. The problem is we have bills due. This is the first time i have been away from him and dont know how to handle this Im kinda new to this whole army thing. Does anyone have some advice?

Just bear with it. It takes some time for payroll to get set up when first getting to boot camp. It could easily take 6-8 weeks before his first check but it will get to a level of normalcy.

First of all, you need to contact the people that you owe money to and inform them of the current situation. Them understanding that he has joined the military usually helps. Also, I would like you to google (SCRA) Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. Go study it and then ask each one of your Creditors what paperwork they will need from your husband to fall under the act. All your credit cards will be dropped to 6% interest on all debt before he entered active service. But no new occuring debt. It takes a few weeks, wspecially since you may not have access to his enlistment documents at this moment, but communicating with your Debtors is the first key move. Also go to militaryonesource.com and start learning about your future finances. Start planning now! Don't wait for the walls to fall.
