I wanted to share a story with everyone, so I may be able to save someones heart ache.

I recently discovered that I'm paying close to double on my homeowners insurance policy in comparison to the rest of my neighbors. I live in a subdivision of 460 homes, and just recently discovered that most of my neighbors all pay between $1300.00 - $1700 a year for there homeowners policy. I however am paying over $2800 a year for a basic coverage. When I called USAA, and asked them how can this be. They basically dismissed the issue and said I can not compare apples and oranges. One of my neighbors policy has more coverage than I do, and she's paying $1500.00. I discovered that they had my house listed at 2900 square foot, and my house is only 2100 square foot house, and when I questioned them will I be reinbursed for paying for square footage that I do not have, the manager stated square footage does not matter, and it's base on the dwelling coverage. I then stated that my neighbor has a $223,000 Dwelling coverage, and is paying half what I'm paying, and I'm only receiving $191,300 Dwelling coverage. Well then he dismissed that by saying there's other figures involved. Well then tell me what they are, because I'm still trying to get some form of answer on why we are paying double for basic coverage in a small town where there is only one grocery store, and we're not in a flood zone.

To say the least I changed insurance company, and for a company who keeps stating there here for the veterans. I feel cheated, and truly disappointed.

So, please take the time an review your insurance policy, and make sure your getting the coverage you need at a fair price. This was a hard lesson to learn for me. Never received an answer, except "There's More In Figures" WILL SOMEONE TELL ME WHAT FIGURES THEY ARE REFERRING TO...AAAHHHH...HEART ACHES...

To add wood to the fire. I spoke with a rep 2 days ago, who stated that by correcting my square footage, she can bring my policy down from $2841.00 to $2005.00. Yesterday when I called to check the status, I was told something different, and spoke with the "Manager" he stated to me that square footage did not matter. Within a 3 day period, my square footage went from 2600 square foot coverage to 2900 square foot coverage, but my actual square footage is only 2100.00. Curse

I have my homeowners insurance through USAA and have had no problems whatsoever. My house is about 3100 sq feet. I have 240k dwelling coverage and I pay $604 every six months.

Wow...what a great price. I just don't understand how we seem to have paid SOOO much more. We changed insurance company right away, and I'm paying a lot less now. It's just so sad to think that the past 6 years. We have paid so much.

I have to mention that I also was very dissapointed with USAA after I had a loss claim on the "$8 computer rider" coverage in 06. I was told that it would not effect my policy, yet my policy increased 40% the next year, had very bad interface with the reps on the phone, including while checking coverage costs prior to a military move. They tried to increase my premiums stating my home was "vacant", because I had asked what the coverage would be in the new location, but had not yet moved or even purchased the new property, I was just gathering information. In the end, I will NEVER use USAA for homeowners coverage again. Curse and will never recommend them because of repeated problems. I had been considering moving my banking to them prior to this and will not, because of the issues.
