I'm Currently deployed to Iraq, I have been stationed at FT. Hood for the past few years and am married. I lived in the barracks and got married before i was deployed.
My wife is from California and resides in San Diego, currently going to school. She was going to school there before we had met and couldnt leave. Her lease was up and she still hasnt finsihed school, which her school is already paid for, and had to sign a new lease for a new apartment. So its not feasible for her to move to Ft hood.

So my question is: Am i allowed BAH or COLA for San Diego since its not possible for her to move. Getting only $950 a month for BAH, when im paying close to $1700 a month is kind of hitting the wallet pretty hard. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Since the military is not the one keeping her from living near your permanent duty station, you are not authorized BAH for another location.

There is NO COLA for San Diego, never was. The closest base that has CONUS COLA is 29 Palms and that is around $50 a month or less. It is a set amount CONUS and it doesn't matter how many dependents.

BAH w/dependents will only be based on where you are stationed if in CONUS location. The only time they will change it to her location is if you have unaccompanied orders.

Since his orders were not from San Diego, he has no authorization for San Diego BAH. If he deployed from San Diego or when to an unaccompanied school from San Diego, he would get San Diego BAH. He would also be entitled if, for some reason, the military moved his wife to San Diego.

But, because he is deployed, he is entitled to Family Separation Allowance.

Before they were married, he was living in the barracks, not collecting BAH and she was paying rent. Now that he is married, he is collecting $950 for BAH, so they should have a net gain.

That is a deployment not PCS orders. During deployment BAH is based on where you are stationed. When you PCS the BAH changes from where you were to where you now are. He is still stationed in Ft Hood he will get the BAH for that area.
