I am planning on going AMT soon, I am getting ready to put my name on the list. I have been reading around on the internet and trying to gather all the info I can about all the different airframes.
However the airframe that interests me the most right now, the HU25, I cant find a whole lot of info on. Are there any AMT's out there that may be willing to share some of their good and bad experiences with the Falcon?
Just wait till you get to school, there is a ton of experience on all the airframes in that building, and you will get the chance to grill all the instructors.
Interesting choice, you might be one of very few that request the falcon. It's a dependable airframe. Used for maritime law enforcement, and search and rescue. We find ourselves embedded in a support role quite often, but still remain remarkably versatile. We are usually first on scene to asess any situation, and remain onscene to provide communications support for helicopters that are at their range limitations. The Falcons are an average of 25 to 27 years old, so you find yourself doing quite a bit of troubleshooting, and or repairs you might not be doing on newer airframes. Keep in mind this is just a generalization, so shoot me an e-mail if you want more info. Good luck.
bucketofsoupyum, if you're looking for an HU-25 billet, look no further! I have plenty available here in Miami! Make it through school AET or AMT, it don't matter, and I have a home for you!
The way the transfer season is panning out; it looks like the experience is evening out on the AMT side and places like Cape Cod will suffer on the AET side.
BTW if you want to get aircrew qualified quicker ask for schools and be proactive.
Thank you for all the replies on the falcon info, I am excited to get started in AMT and am currently talking with Embry-Riddle to start taking some online courses there as well while learning all I can about diesel engines here as a FN. I should be qualified here at my unit by august and be able to put my name on the AMT list.
One other quick question I have about falcon billets is this: according to the USCG website there are 5 stations that have 25's
quote:
CGAS Cape Cod, Massachusetts CGAS Mobile, Alabama CGAS Corpus Christi, Texas CGAS Miami, Florida CGAS Borinquen, Puerto Rico
However, I was looking around on CG WEB and it seems only the first 4 have falcons assigned to there unit. Does anyone know about Borinquen? My guess is that the Falcon will TDY there occasionally, would this be correct?
You can be stationed at: Cape Cod, MA Miami ,FL Mobile ,AL Corpus Christi, TX Elizabeth City, NC
Mobile is a training command with not as many SAR launches as the three other operational Falcon units, and an Elizabeth City billet is a support billet not standing a ready SAR response.
The remaining three units, Cape Cod, Corpus, and Miami provide support in the Carribbean. Miami takes care of the majority of these deployments, and we fill in the gaps.
