There are a few depending on the type of airframe. Below are some basic ones.

- Complete an avaition A school
- Complete the respective airframe's aircrew syllabus
- Get the CO's approval

How long?

Again it depends on the type of aircraft. The Basic Aircrewman qual comes first. If you're a quick learner you might be able to do this in 3-6 months. Then you will work towards your primary aircrew position qualification such as Flt Mechanic, Dropmaster, Navigator, Flt Engineer. These take a little longer as they are more technical.

You can also lose your qualification if you fail to maintain it, get injured, etc. That's bad. As a junior person, if you can not mainatain/regain your qual's, you will not stay in avaition.

In support of TVCJohn;
YOU must be proactive in getting qualified. There are a limited number of flights and all crewmembers must maintain their quals, so it is up to you to ensure you are getting the training, flights, mentoring, etc.

Study hard and come out at the top of the class, stay out of trouble, don't quit and don't BS the instructors. Good luck! Cool
