There are a few depending on the type of airframe. Below are some basic ones.
- Complete an avaition A school - Complete the respective airframe's aircrew syllabus - Get the CO's approval
How long?
Again it depends on the type of aircraft. The Basic Aircrewman qual comes first. If you're a quick learner you might be able to do this in 3-6 months. Then you will work towards your primary aircrew position qualification such as Flt Mechanic, Dropmaster, Navigator, Flt Engineer. These take a little longer as they are more technical.
You can also lose your qualification if you fail to maintain it, get injured, etc. That's bad. As a junior person, if you can not mainatain/regain your qual's, you will not stay in avaition.

In support of TVCJohn; YOU must be proactive in getting qualified. There are a limited number of flights and all crewmembers must maintain their quals, so it is up to you to ensure you are getting the training, flights, mentoring, etc.
