im about to put my name on an a school list, and im wondering how much time does a 3rd get as an amt in-flight. i love flying and ill do whatever to get the most, amt ast aet whatever. semper p fellas
Fixed wing will give you more time than helos. Operational demands at your station drive those numbers too. As you rotate around different jobs, you could find yourself getting just the minimum four hours per month; working nights(1600-?) or mids (0000-0800).
Getting qualified takes time. Once you get through the ground syllabus, then you fly more as a trainee. Stand duty on days and chances are you fly at least every four days with the duty section on scheduled trainers or missions.
When I joined I too was enthusiastic about flying. Eventually, as with any activity, it can become routine and boring. The nice thing for us, we fix and fly, so there is always a new challenge to meet.
...and yes, there are days while flying along, looking outside at some breathtaking views and think, "we get paid to do this?"
