Regular aircrew are being trained as gunners. That is not to say that some GMs have been qualified.
I'm sure the Aircrew Force Manager will be by soon to get this one strait. |

Sorry for the delayed response. I'm currently in Daytona. I don't have the 3710.1F in front of me so I'll keep it simple. Yes GM's can qualify as AG's if their CO approves it. Some already at airstations initially tried it but for some reason it didn't work out. Anyway, they must complete the AMS syllabus first. Any non-aviation person flying on CG planes who will be qualifing for a speciality position must first clear the astericked (*) pre-reqs for AMS's listed in the 3710.1F. These items are what disqualify many candidates who aspire to fly. Flt Physicals is probably the biggest show stopper. |

thanks for the help that makes sense. I also had another question. I have my name on the AMT A school list. I was wondering does the CG send you to the nearest AirSta for the AN prog. or is it dependent soley on vacancies, are you allowed to request an AirSta?????

Saving transfer money used to be the big driver for where you do the Airman program, but filling openings is in there too. Don't want to overload certain units with airman units, but it did happen. Thing were changing as I was heading out the door, so now I believe single members may end up going from their Airman unit to "A" school on PCS vice TDY orders if they are needed elsewhere. The needs of the service is always the main driver, but keeping travel costs down makes for some unique management skills on the part of the Airman detailer. Remember what you hear now that is open will long be changed before you get to your airman unit and will change again while you are starting "A" school. One day, the clouds will part, Mr. Sun will send warm rays of sunshine and goodness, burn a hole in the ground, the smoke will clear, and you will know your destination! Good luck! |
