While spending your four months at an Air Station in the Airman Program, you will have to pass the Aircrew swim test. This is the same annual swim test you will do along with wet drills.
At "A" School you will be going to the Navy's 9D5 "Dunker". Before you ride in the dunker, you must perform another swim test and demonstrate in their shallow water egress device that you can be inverted in a seat, undo your seat belt, and using hand holds for references, egress while blindfolded. There is a PT program at the AET and AMT "A" schools. The details I do not remember, and it changes over time. Got to the "intranet" site for the Aviation Technical Training Center (ATTC) to get more details. It explains the airman program too. Good Luck! Make sure you have that Secret Clearance paperwork in and make sure you get a Flight Physical done. |

There is no pass/fail PT as of right now. We do have a swim test like n1dp mentioned. If you are a weak swimmer, start working on it. We will help you here also if you need it. The PT is usually done as a class, nothing to worry about unless you are close to weight limits.
The new dunker is alot less intimidating than what I went through and most actually enjoy it. Brush up on math, that has been a stumbling block for some here lately. Your Airman program should cover it. We just sent 3 new AMTs to Savannah in last few months, so hit those guys up. Bring your "A" game or don't waste my time! Good Luck! AMT "A" School Instructor |

We went through a spade of folks hung up on math. Most were at the minimum score required by the ASVAB. We thought it might be a good idea to revisit the minimums.
