New to USCG, currently on the A-School wait list for AMT. I have heard promotions are slow in the aviation career fields. Does anyone have a list of the average TIG/TIS for each rank in AMT?

I wouldn't get all wrapped up around the percentages, just study for the SWE instead of "just taking it to see whats on it" and you'll already have an advantage over half the field. Advancements are for Enlisted(not promotions), and they are slower than most other rates, but thats not always a bad thing when you dealing with aviation.

Well said L!! I will just add in though, as for the Average time in Service for an AMT competing for E6, it's 10 years....all rates are different though and just like L said, when you are in aviation, I would rather be in someones hands that KNOWS what they are doing, rather than someone who can write a good test....Most I think can vouch for that!

These numbers are for the last nine years, percentage advanced and number advanced. Top row in each section is 2008 numbers, E2-E7in line one with E8 and E9 wrapped around just under. If you access CG Central look for work force information, they have the entire list for each rate of all stats for that rate including how many bodys, billet, time in servce advance rates loss rates etc. You can see the trends well enough to predict you chances of advancemen as they go in cycles if you add in the projected vision of the service.

When choosing to correct someone on the proper use of terms, it would be good to do so yourself. AMT, AET and AST are not rates - they are ratings. AMT1, BMC, MK3 and SN are RATES. The term you should have used at the end of the above quote is rating. Big Grin
