Greetings,

I just got my name added to the AMT list and a new option was offered to me the other day. A PATFORSWA billet. Since AMT is almost a year wait I figured I'd go overseas for 1 year at a PATFORSWA and come back at the top of AMT list because that's what the solicitation was offering. I was just wondering if anyone else here had done something similar or knows someone who did this?

I know of a seaman out here already who put his name on and as soon as his flight physical is updated then he goes to the top.

IMO....if they do a tour over there they deserve to go to the top.

When I joined, I too went on the list for AMT (back then I was an AM) and the current wait was up to two and a half years. My CC helped me out by telling me about going to a unit that would give me a Priority One transfeer after I was done, so I went Isolated Duty in AK. Guarenteed to bump to the top of the list when I rotated in one year...made seaman in four months and at five months was sitting of the top of the list.
Still stayed in my billet but when I rotated I went to the very next class.

The way the AMT list is moving, you might as well go do your year in the gulf.....

i would really love to. it would probably work out around the same time i would go to school if i didnt go overseas. i dont care though, i will wait 2 years if i must to become an AMT. its the only thing i considered before i had met my recruiter, no other ratings appealed to me then or now.
