Unless it has drastically changed, they will teach you just enough of the type that will get your butt kicked in almost any fight.

If you plan to engage in unarmed self defense, you'd best learn something more than what you'll get at MP School. They will not have time to teach you enough of anything to make you proficient. You'll get just enough for you to hurt yourself or someone else.

Military Police get Combatives like everybody else coming out of BCT and also LE-oriented unarmed self-defense training.

I do agree with Gumby that you can't just go by what you learn in AIT, but in a decent unit(assuming you're not deployed), you'll get training to keep you prepared.

But to honest, you'll do better to become proficient in your IPC skills so you don't HAVE to engage in so much "hand to hand." Barring that, OC and TASER's work great, but I'm speaking from the L&O mission here. For our combat mission, Combatives works well. Good luck if you join.

When I went through hand to hand in boot camp and MP school, they didn't teach us any Chuck Norris moves, but taught us moves to "show" us there are manuvers to do when accousted. LOL Any form of hand to hand combat training is only perfected when done repeadiately and timing is of the utmost importance. I'm a 3rd degree black belt, and no longer teach or participate, but don't feel like your going to get a few hours training and be Chuck Norris. It won't happen. The main thing to remember is, "distance." If your close enough to an opponent for him to strike you, you most likely eliminate his kicking. If your "just out of reach" of him hitting you, chances are your going to be kicked. My advice is, remove your billy club, toss it to your opponent and then draw your handgun. Nothing beats common sense. LOL Your opponent is armed, and your within the UCMJ of not drawing your weapon while you have your billy club at your side. And if an altercation does occur, try standing with your back to a building, tree, or vehicle so no one can come in from behind. GOOD LUCK...........and practise, practise, practise.
