I'm serious about enlisting and i'm busy seeking as much info as possible.
question:
*How often do MPs get deployed to iraq/afghanistan *is deployment a serious possibility? *stats to how many army mps have died in the war on terrorism.
Use the "find" button right above your name on this posting. All these questions have been asked, and answered, several times in the recent past. If you can't find your answer, come on back and tell us. Don't start a new thread, just ask here again.
I am going to throw down my 2 cents on one of your questions....just because I feel it needs to be said.
If you are not ok with deploying. DO NOT JOIN. People in my unit missed deploying with the main body to Iraq and now many of them are joining another unit going to Afghanistan. Chances are you will deploy. If you are non-deployable...you will probably be discharged. There are very few soldiers who have not/will not deploy. As an MP...I would imagine that number is very, very, very low. The only MP's I know that have not deployed (not that I know very many) are those who have recently graduated OSUT. They all expect to be deployed within the next year.
Military Police is the most deployed MOS in the Army. Deployment are not always to Iraq or Afghanistan. They could be to any where we are needed. The bottom line is as a MP you will deploy during your career.
As everyone else said, you will deploy. I am a national guard MP and I am still deploying and had I joined a few months earlier I would be working on my 2nd deployment.
MP=Deployment somewhere. And a lot are going to Iraq/Afghanistan.
I was an MP from 1970 to 1973, active. Keep in mind the "military" uses you where your needed, and there's a thing called TDY, (temporary duty assignment) and OJT (on Job Training) You can train as an MP and end up as anything if the military needs someone to fill a capacity. Usually though, thats on a volunteer basis. As far as being deployed to a specific area, if your needed there, qualified chances are you'll go. A real soldier will face all obstacles and tribulations day to day basis, but preplanning is what they call "wish assignments" and alot of times they are granted. Military Police back in my day, had alot of different functions. We could be dog handlers, pull physical security, be assigned to oversee and protect military intelligence personnel or be assigned to investigative units such as what you might know as NCIS on TV. The main thing is, wanting to serve your country and be the best you can be and BE PROUD of anything your assigned to do. Do it with honor, fortitude and perserverance. Some assignments suck, some don't. But experience everything you can, for when you get older and retire or ETS out of active duty, you'll have met some pretty stern requirements and succeeded. Be Proud, and be determined. Make your country and family proud, but stay alive. Add common sense to training, and listen to experience and you'll survive. Don't get careless and over confident. I was at the 1972 Munich Olympic games seeking terrorists, and also had some TDY to Viet Nam. Trust your gut feeling and listen to it........it might save you.
Everyone here has stated a truism: MPs are highly deployed force. They are what the Military calls a "Force Multiplier", because they have more than one function and are highly flexible, even when the task is not something they are specifically trained for. MPs have to be hard workers, and they can't expect to get a lot of off time. Even if you never patrol the streets on an Army base, you will be prepared for long tours of duty on a civilian law enforcement agency. If you don't want to deploy, join the Boy Scouts. Because you will deploy, somewhere. I have personally deployed to Kosovo, to Turkey, to Poland, and to Iraq. Poland and Turkey were Force Protection missions. And just to put it in perspective, the Turkey mission was 15 days after 9/11. I hope this helps you understand the MP Corps. I wish I was still in, it beats my current job.
MPs do get screwed over a lot. I was Infantry and thought we had it bad. Now that I work with them I see I had it easy...no wonder they are pi$$ed off all the time.
Stop taking life so seriously, you're not getting out alive anyway.
