I posted this in the air force forum, but so far no responses. I figure that the Army would not be too much different in their policy in regards to this than the Air Force, and likewise I am curious about my choices within the Army in regards to my situation.

I would like to give a little background. Two years ago at age 19, I was geared up to join the Marines. I was in the DEP for about four months. In that time, I wasn't really sure what I wanted as an MOS, so I selected 0300; I asked if this could be changed prior to boot camp and they said yes. In that time, I decided that based on all the former infantry I knew, that 0300 might not be right for me as far civilian careers post service. I then decided that intelligence would be a good outlook for myself. I scored extremely high on my ASVAB and qualified for intel in every aspect except one- my usage of marijuana in high school. I was honest about using, and gave them the number 10 in times I used. However, it was not until two weeks before my ship date that they told me the intelligence job had a maximum number of 5 instances of use. Needless to say I felt burnt that they waited to tell me this, and among other reasons, had myself separated from the DEP.

As stated, it's been about two years since my Marine Corp debacle; I'm currently a county government employee in pursuit of a career in law enforcement and I've considered a possible tenure in the Air Force with Security Forces to help improve my resume. I'm curious as to what the max number marijuana of usage is. I have not used any illegal substance since high school, nor do I have a criminal record (one traffic ticket). Of course, people are telling me to lie to an Air Force recruiter, but considering that A)it's wrong, and certainly B)I confirmed my usage at MEPS (which I imagine would show up on a background check), I would admit again what I had told the Marine recruiter. I understand that a recruiter could probably answer my question in person, but based on my previous experience of getting strung along, I do not want to go through that whole ordeal again until absolutely necessary.

Go to the militarty.com home page and read the article how the entire military, Reserves and National Guard included, is cutting down on ANY type of waivers. With the economy the way it is, unless you are 100% USDA Prime, you probably won't get in.

appreciate the reply, but all speculation aside, I'm looking for hard data. The recruiter I dealt with for the Marines had a binder with every MOS and the standards to enlist, including previous drug use. I'm curious as to what exactly it says for MP or SF, and/or if that number listed refers to the security clearance or the job itself.

The only hard data you are gong to get is from a Recruiter. Ask this same question in the Army Wannabe forum.

Back when I worked with nukes. We had to have a secrey-prp clearance. Dope smokers were automatically disqualified for that program. So, the possibility of you getting in maybe ok. Getting into Intel, very highly doughtful.
