I am about to go into the army havent chosen my career yet, which is good, i have time to decide, but i am wanting to do military police, but i have heard rumors that debt can discualify you, i dont have much debt, just 600 which i have been paying off, is it based on the amount or is it just debt in general

You should be fine, it's really about your credit, a lot of outstanding debt resulting in bad credit ratings is the killer.

They are looking for a pattern such as not making payments for 3- 6 months or living outside your means constantly. Just want to make sure you are not a liability for some one to be able to bribe you easily. If you only have 600 dollars and are making all payments you will have no problem whatsoever.

Like they have been saying, you will be fine. I wouldn't even worry about it unless you are living beyond your means and have repossessions, thousands in debt,etc.
