I was about to join and my recruiter is telling me the MP job is closed.
I didn't know they just close jobs like that all of a sudden. Now I have to pick a different mos and i'm really not happy about it.
Has this happened to anyone else?
Anyone know when it would reopen?

hi, I don't know where u are in the us or if that even matters but my recruiter told me its closing either at the end of this month or next month.

I've been rushing to get to meps before its too late. He said they close until like May so if u can wait DO IT. don't be talked into taking an MOS u don't want.

At times an MOS will close for a short time to balance out or provide a break in training cycles. If you want it bad enough go into DEP until what you want is available. Don't settle out of desparation you could wind up with a tour that feels longer than it is.

They are probably getting ready for what I like to call the "Summer Rush". The Army gets quite a few trainees during the summer as high schools and colleges have their graduations. They also get a steady stream of National Guard and Army Reserve soldiers who have split-option contracts......this means that the Reservists can go to basic during one period of time, then go to AIT during another period of time. It's not available to Active Duty....so don't ask! Big Grin The Active Duty trainees go through OSUT (One Station Unit Training) which means you'll be with the same people through basic and AIT.....lucky you!

Stay the course, wait for what you want, and don't let the Recruiter push you.....it's your life after all. Wink

definitely not closed. if you wait it out, the mos will come to you. my brother is joining, just swore in yesterday. his recruiter told him there were no MP slots for a year. my brother said, "I'll wait". two days later, there was a slot open for him.

I TOTALLY AGREE! OP your thread title made me laugh when I saw it. MPs are already spread way too thin, so I highly doubt that it would be closed for long - IF it's closed at all.

Sounds like the recruiters are up to their same ol' BS. They will say what they have to in order to meet their recruiting quota by the end of the month. If you (the recruit) are shaping up to be a promising conquest, and he/she (the recruiter) hasn't met the monthly recruiting quota, then he/she will tell you what they have to in order to get you to sign on the dotted line before he/she gets an arse ripping from a supervisor.

Army recruiting is under an incredible amount of pressure, more-so than any other branch right now. The only thing that is saving these poor recruiters is the bad economy.

The MP Corp isn't for everyone. If it's what you want wait for it.

And this is for anyone out there.

In a ways it's like being a cop in some ways it's not. The joke about MP = Multi Purpose, well it's true. You could be doing anything. You'll get some "high speed training" not all of it on the books. I enjoyed my time in the corp, it's well worth the wait or the effort to press for what you want.

Never quit, never lose!

And for those that cut it, welcome to the Corp.

My local recruiting station is considering a "not hiring sign"..... They have achieved three and four times quota for each of the 6 or 7 recruiters. 10lbs to lose and back to MEPS for me

I think it's full but there is ways around it. For insistance, my recruter told me it was "full" for the next year but as soon as i told him that i would wait he called "the rock" and bam i got a job. Only issue is i got a 5 year contract and i leave 5 months from then? I guess it's better than waiting a year to go. But yeah, just stay strong in what you pick because they are there for you, and without you, they get no pay check :P..

The whole "full" thing is a joke. Recruiters want to put you in some other MOS, like Petroleum Supply or Motor Transport Operator, something which is also in high demand, but which is not as "glamorous" as MP. They would probably do the same thing if you asked for 11b.....let's say they actually needed 11c more, they might say that 11b slots are full or temporarily closed, just so they can get you in as an 11c, which is still Infantry, but is indirect (mortars) fire Infantry. It's not that likely, but that's an example. Don't let them do it to you....they did to me when I was less informed (before the internet) and it screwed up my military career.....young and dumb and Early Separation.....not going to get into it. I've had the experience.....you will not like not getting the G.I. Bill. Any ways, go for what you want....tell 'em to pizz off, that usually gets their attention.

My recruiter asked me what job I wanted. She was able to go online and reserve me an MP slot (for when I get to MEPS), with a ship date 2 months from now.

There were 9 slots open, and when she finished my reservation there were 6 left.
