Army Branch cords
Are you talking about the shoulder cord marked "D" above? Or this below? Military Pistol Lanyard If you are talking about "D" above, the Branch shoulder cords were worn unofficially after WWII. They were sometimes seen as late as the early 90's being worn by unit color guards but they were never authorized as an official uniform item. You could put it on the uniform, but it was not normally worn, and no you can't wear two branch cords at the same time so it can not be worn with the Infantry Blue cord. The pistol lanyard is still used and issued today. It's not normally worn with the Service uniform as we aren't normally "armed" with pistols when we wear it so there would not be a need. The only time I've ever seen a lanyard on a dress/service uniform was by MPs and it was normally white not the feild use olive drab one shown. Last time I saw an MP working in Greens was Reagan's funneral prior to that it was 1992 or 1993. Hope that answers your question. |

Item "A" in that photo is not an MP Lanyard. It's a French fourragere -- a "citation lanyard" awarded to a military unit by the French government. Belgian & Netherlands governments have awarded similar citations.

THE MP LANYARD IS WORN ON THE LEFT SHOULDER, AND AS STATED IN OTHER REPLY'S IT WAS NOT NORMALLY WORN BY MP'S, I WAS IN THE OLD ARMY BACK WHEN WE WORN DRESS GREENS ON PATROL AND ON THE GATE, STATESIDE AND IN GERMANY, ALSO THE PISTOL CORD WHICH IS NO LONGER ISSUED AND IS NOT WORN ON THE 9MM ANYMORE. I HAVE ONE BUT IT IS OLD AND I WEAR IT ON MY DRESS GREENS FOR PARADES. I AM RETIRED NOW.

I was an MP in 82nd MP company ,82nd airborne in the 1980's. We were issued lanyards as part of our official TA 50 supply. They were olive drab in color, and were worn pinned to the right eplet. The oficial MP colors are green and yellow, so yours might be origional to a different time period. The perpose is to keep one from loosing a weapon durring a conflict or struggle. Hope this helps.

Uh yes...Military Lanyards! The things that started it all for me! I developed a fascination with them since I first joined the military in 1990. Now I have taken beyond what anyone else has.
I can customize any length, style, color, application you are looking for. Not saying that I'm the best, because it is a dying tradition and there are still some other good lanyard makers out there. Send me an email and let me know what you're looking for. www.knoticus.com bart@knoticus.com |

There are at least three orders of French fourragere:
Green & Red, the colors of Croix de Guerre, Yellow & Green, the colors of Medaille Militaire, and Red, the color of Legion d'Honneur. These were awarded to French & foreign military organizations during World Wars I & II. Most, if not all, Soldiers of 1st Infantry Division (including Div. HQ) wear one or the other for their units' valor. Although Soldiers of 1st MP Company wear one, most MPs do not. |
