MPs,
I hope I'm not beating a dead horse with this post... from my searches I'd say I'm not. I'm a college senior, I'm MEPS phys'd, I've finished my OCS board, and I need to find a unit. A local Civil Affairs unit wanted to take me as an MI 2lt until I could reclass to CA... but MI is "overstrength" in the USAR, so USAREC denied me. The CA unit will take me as a 42B, Human Resource Officer, with promises of CAQC later down the road. I'm not so set on risking being stuck with HR if somehow the verbal promises fall through. The more I've thought about it, and been advised, I'd much rather have an MOS that has actual "troop time." As far as I understand it, the only MOS where I'm going to find that "troop time" in the Reserve is in Military Police. So my question is: If I branch MP in the USAR, as a 2lt, will I find that I am actually able to fulfill a PL position? From what I can tell, MP units are as close as one can get to and Infantry unit in the Reserve. Any and all criticisms and input will be more than welcomed. Thank you in advance. V/R, Ben |

As a former Reserve Officer, it depends.
The reason I say it depends is because it depends on your location (Home of Record) and far you are willing to travel. For example, I used to live near the DC area. All the MP slots were taken up, but if I drove 2 1/2 hours out to the the country there was a unit begging for officers. The point to my post is if you are willing to travel, you will find a unit. If you want to find a unit close to you (say 30 minutes) Good Luck. |
