I am a 28 year reservist called to active duty last March 2007. In July of 2007 I was di-agnosed with breast cancer. I have been deployed several times including the first Gulf War. I had a masectomy of my left breast in January 2008 at Ft. Bragg, NC. My question is will I have to get out of the Army and if I do will I be eligible for compenstion.

Greetings and special blessings to one and all.
I am very sorry to hear of your cancer, my wife just had radation for hers. She found a lump and it was only in early stage 1. I would not think that this would be cause to put you out of the service. My wife is doing fine and back to normal after some burning from the treatments. As long as you are free of cancer, there should be no problems. I am not sure why someone has not given you an answer on this very important question. Keep a good attitude and do not let the enemy torment your mind. May God richly bless and keep you. In His Service, Grover |

My best wishes to you and Godspeed.
I think I share Grover's thought that anything can be overcome, all will be well in its own time, and faith is the vehicle of choice. In reading 10 & 5 USC I cannot find anything that allows for the service component to discharge you, cancer is an issue, not a cause. You will indeed be eligible for compensation for ANY illness or injury sustained in the service, but you need not concern yourself with that unless you wish to leave the Army.
