I am currently putting my package together to switch rates and become a PA. I have about an 8 month wait before I am eligible to switch rates and have a couple of questions about the package I am putting together. I understand that I have to write and essay and complete a resume but would like to know what the essay should be about and also the approximate length it should be. Also, is shadowing a requirement in order to become a PA. I am stationed in Borinquen, Puerto Rico and we do not have any PA's that I can talk with to help me out with the transition. If anyone has any advice or information that might be helpful it would be greatly appreciated.

There's a Manual that lists the package requirements. If you don't know what I'm talking about, send me a message and I'll get you started. I believe you can do the PA interview over the phone with D7.

I do not believe that a PA interview can be done over the phone (maybe you will be special because of location) however; all questions can be answered by PACM Tyler Johnson. He is the rating manager. You can e-mail him at Tyler.Johnson@uscg.mil and get the correct answer.
