The Reservist, and Proceedings are free to members of the Reserve, and others I'm sure. Yet the CG Magazine is not, as far as I know, a free publication that can be mailed to a members residence. It is, however, available for a fee. Just curious on the reason behind this.

Which one? The Naval Institute or the Marine Safety Council?

Marine Safety & Security Council. I have been receiving free issues of this for some time now, and of course The Reservist, but if you want the Coast Guard Magazine, it's a paid subscription. Just wondering the reason behind this.

Well Senior,

I don't know the reason behind it. Units get copies mailed to them free of charge.

Individual copies of service magazines (Airman, All Hands, Soldier, Marine and Coast Guard) all cost a subscription fee for private copies, regardless of service status according to what I found online. I wasn't able to find a reason but they can all be ordered through the GPO (government printing office) bookstore website.
