Hello, I'm currently at that point of nonrate life where I can place my name on an A-school list. I'm torn.

I know I'll have a better idea of what I want to do if someone can tell me if there are any billets for a PA on HECs or MECs.

Or are they all desk jobs ashore?

It used to be that there were no billets but once in awhile one would show up TAD.

While none were assigned PCS to HECs or MECs, getting PAs out to document operations was (and I assume still is) a priority of the program.

There are no billets for PA's afloat. They are only stationed at districts, sectors and detachments. Although they are not permanently attached to a cutter/afloat unit, there are still plenty of chances to get underway. You just have to seek them out. One of the guys in my office just got back from a 6-month stint on the CGC Boutwell. While PA's do stick in the office a bit, it is more because we are working on editing photos/video/stories and such. Make sure PA is what you really want to do because it is a long wait. I waited 2 and a half years for A-school. Hope this helps!
