Hey guys just wanted to get some info on extinsions. I am currently on a 110 in MA, and would like to stay here for another year. I am due to transfer summer of 09, however my enlistment ends in 2010, and I really dont want to get stuck somewhere and have to move my wife away from a really great job. I have intensions on re-enlisting, but would rather do so at the end of my current contract rather than doing it early and losing out on a little money. Before any of you go off on tangents about bonuses, know that at the end of this enlistment I will have a little over nine years in and I am planing on sticking around for the full twenty or more if Im able. I simply dont want to lose out on some cash if I can help from it. I have been told that FS's in independent billets dont really have a choice other than transferring every two years. If any of you have any info on this matter, please shed a little light.
Thanks,
FS2

I assume you meant extensions Cool , but as to your question, to extend at a unit beyond whatever your original PCS orders state, a request must be done within the first year of being assigned to the unit. If you want to extend after that time has passed, you have to wait until the normal transfer season begins and submit a e-resume requesting to stay in your current billet. Being that you are on a 110, as long as you aren't above the cut to advance to FS1 you shouldn't have a problem getting your request approved. They are this year, and will I'm sure be next year, short on and in need of FS2 ID qualified people. As far as reenlisting, if you were to get your extension approved to carry you in your current billet till 2010 before your enlistment was up, you wouldn't reenlist until it came tame to leave that unit in 2010. However if your extension were to carry you beyond your enlistment, you would reenlist (and receive the appropriate bonus) at the time those orders were cut. Hope that helps.

The detailes will love you to extend, even if you make the cut for FS1 the advancement takes like a year so if you are commited you should try to make 1st, get the bonus just on time to reenlist without extend ,you can call the assigment officer right know, this is the time for mentoring and advices .Im sure you will extend .FS2 independent duty is always critical you will need your CO endorsment.Good luck.

Attend the epm roadshow. If you still have questions after the presentation then ask while they are there.

I extended twice on 110's, all I did was put my unit at the top of my dreamsheet and requested it in my comments. Razz
