I'm rotating in 09 off the CGC OSAGE. Nice boat, almost done revamping the mess deck looks sweet w/ a huge flat screen. Pittsburgh is a great place to live w/ good schools in Sewickley. Any more questions let me know.
I would love to go to a tender next, this is my second 87 and I have been on 225 but would like to stay underway and I have been told that river tenders and construction tenders are the way to go. Right now I am waiting on my LE package to be reviwed and see what happens with that. Do you like the underway time, please tell me all you can about you life there, FS wise.
I pulled almost 7 straight years as an independent duty FS. 3.5 on a 110' (CGC Aquidneck) and 3.5 years on the CGC Kennebec a construction tender out of Portsmouth Virginia. I must say that the 3.5 years on the 110 was the most rewarding; but the 3.5 on the Kennebec was absolutley the BEST 3.5 years of my CG career!! I would recommend for ANYONE to do a tour on a tender. The crews are small and family like. The work is hard, but rewarding. If I could go back and do it now, I would. If you have the chance to do some duty on a construction tender... JUMP at the chance. I am in global if you would like to know more. CWO Randy litka (prior FSCS) Supply Officer USCGC RUSH (WHEC 723)
