Sound off on what you think of this.
it sounds like you guys underway are going to love this, while those of us that are land bound for the next three to four years are suckin wind. |

I haven't seen the message yet, are they knocking off award points and sea time after you advance starting Jan 10?

As much as I disagree with it, the new policy helps me.
I also like that it will hurt people that haven't served in an FSO job for years but use sea time racked up as a third or second to make Chief/Senior Chief. Making them essentially useless without an FS1 that can run things for them. :P So would this policy mean that in the FS rate you would have to have 3 years at sea as an FS1 to make Chief? Or will they be altering the 3 year requirement? |

And now that they've made Chief with their three years (waiver for some) they are going to be an FSO on a 270! Come on, Sea time matters to cooks, FSO sea time matters more but how are you gonna sit here and be an FSO U/W when you have been making chocolate fountains or handing out basketballs & barracks rooms? Now if you want to talk about something that needs to change... Evals! Stupid a$$ crap that is way too bias. Don't get me wrong, I couldn't ask for better marks, I'v earned them, but some folks get the hook up, and you all know what I'm talking about. I'll be on SHERMAN in 1.5 months for anyone looking for some TDY time. I can't wait to get back U/W! |

I guess I am one of those cats who have been sitting on land after 4 years sea time, but I sure the heck havent been handing out basket balls or dealing with chocolate fountains, I've been sitting at crappy small boat stations, busting my butt taking jobs where nobody wants to go and FSO are getting relieved since my spouse is constantly deploying with the Army. But then again, I'm not sitting back and making it off my sea time, and mananged a high score on SWE without cracking open a book. I know several peole who went boat to boat just fine and get fired the minute they hit a land unit. Every job has it challenges, just as every unit does. You want to talk about people gettin hooked up look at the ones getting waivers and never leaving admirals jobs. O and rock on Steelers! |

How do you "get fired" from the CG? Never heard of that before. |

Not fired but relieved of his duties as an FSO

your seatime will apply for advancement, meaning if you already have 3 years seatime for E7 you will be able to advance. once you advance you will not be able to use the sea points.

Seriously, Why are they doing this? Does this really entice someone to go to sea or maybe take the land job and study harder?

Just a thought, If an SNFS goes to a cutter out of A School, and in 6 months makes FS3, Does he/she lose 6 months of Seatime to compete for fs2. Not that there is a current swe for FS2. Thinking out loud here.

I think wiping out award points would make more people try harder.
As for EX CG GM.....fired meant releived shipped off to another position, sorry was exact enough for you.... |

I don’t think it will chance anything too much. The sea going rates will still go to sea and get credit for it, and the non sea going rates will still be back on the beach, with trop hours, civilian cloths Thursdays and half day Fridays complaining why the advancement system is so unfair to them.

I agree, they should just entirely wipe out award points if they are implementing this new policy. Here is a scenerio that could happen: Lets say you are above the cut for E-7, normally the AO would transfer you that summer to fill an E-7 position. Also the bulk of the E-7 and above advancements don't start until the summer through December, so alot of times the member would get frocked before they depart their old unit. Also normally when you leave that unit you get an award(LOC, CG Achievement, etc...)...So now when you actually get paid for E-7 a few months later, that award and award points associated you just got are useless towards your next advancement. Maybe this might put a stop to "end of tour awards" and maybe members will be given awards at the time they actually earn them. Bottom line is the only way to ensure you advance is to write a good test, or wait until you have 15-20+ years TIS and 5+ YEARS TIR to compete, then you dont have to worry about your test score, award points, or sea points,etc.... |

Good post Edany:
Simple fact is that the goverment is broke, downsizing is happening all over the five services. If you want to compete then you need to get u/w and not sit in some out of rate job for 7 years and cling to the three years at sea you actually have. The CG is using this and the new weight standards as tools to downsize by weeding out the people they don't want. Since they won't say it, I will, no matter how you slice it, it's the truth. So the solution is to get your butt u/w and make rank. |

i think this will be a better system for the e8's going for e9. Because by this point your max on everything except sea tme anyway.
