As i approach the end of my enlistment, ive started to become very interestd in reenlisting in the coast guard. i entered the navy as a CS and i wanted to know if anyone on this board is a former CS or even for the older guys, an MS. If so, which one do you like more? what are the differences between the two, who you recomend jumping the coast guard? any imput on this will be greatly apprieated, thank you
I was in the navy as an MS and was there for the switch to CS. I did 8.5 years, and like chef mark said, i only wish i did it sooner. I struggled a little at first to catch up with the CG's paperwork, but it's coming together now (mainly because the CG is just now going automated and getting something similar to FSM). I have never had a better job, I'm on an 87 ft. patrol boat and I get to a ton of other things besides cooking, e.g. law enforcement, small boat crew etc. Advancement is quick, even to me being a previous submariner. Your experience and knowledge will help, but we definitely do things a little different. feel free to contact me if you have any more questions..
