Oh yeah I forget to add, that I am also in the process of researching the various 378 cutters which I have been informed are the ones that usually are 'underway'.

Well I am currently deciding which are the cutters that would make my top four list because I have learned that you have to provide a top list to your CC during the fourth or fifth week of BT.

Here is my list (based on the factors of greatest possibility of going underway to different countries)

1. The Cutter GALLATIN
2. The Cutter DALLAS
3. The Cutter MIDGETT
4. The Cutter MELLON

Unless it's changed (which it very well could have), you'll be picking your units at FS "A" school since you're heading to guaranteed "A" school.

The important thing is you're excited to get underway. I think you'll find being on a cutter one of the most rewarding and bonding experiences in your CG (and life) career.

Don't discount the California 378's. They go to some really great places. Of course, being a former Mellon-head, I give 2 thumbs up that cutter as well. I got a chance to sail all over the South Pacific to the chilly Bering Sea while stationed on there.

East coast 210's see some good countries as well in the Caribbean. In 1994, while on CGC Vigorous, we participated in a Tradewinds tour and sailed to 15 countries in three months and capped it off with Haitian migrant ops. Good times.

Keep an eye on the New National Security Cutters. The newer the ship the better your quality of life will be.

(I'd name them but I can't spell them very well much less properly pronounce there name. There will be 3 of them on the west coast by the time you finish "A" school.)
