For those of you who may not know, the May 2009 SWE list is out (as is your profile letter) on the PPC website.
A special Shout Out to a certain FS1 who sent me a very nice e-mail congratulating me on making the cut (from the 08 list) and commiserating about being "That Guy.." (#31 on the 2008 list)...
Well, it looks like you went from being "That Guy" to "The Man..." (#1)
BTW- I don't have access to a workstation so can't dig up any scores.
Good Luck to all.

It means you did really good and placed 5 overall, you wrote the best test, but because of various circumstances (marks, sea time, TIS) you got bumped to 5. No big deal, congrats! Odds are you make it, unless the world collapses between now and JAN. I wrote the 4th best when I made it, and got bumped to #6 and still made it on JAN 1st
How many FSCs made it in '06 & '07? I've been looking for last December's message, but can't find it.
So...the '09 number one (congrats dude) is '08 number 31, the '08 cut is presently 30, but # 30 has been removed from the list (right?)...so #31 makes it off the '08 list right? So everybody on the '09 list is really one closer than their number? Do I have this right?

That's the way it SHOULD go down, but you never know...ya know... But yes, asuming I make it off of '08, everyone will go up a spot.
I just wanted to say there is something terribly wrong with a shipmate that can rank #2 on a SWE, and then drop to #46. I've heard this way too many times from various ratings. He will most likely not advance, and that is a shame! Although this is the system we currently have, there is something to be said for that. Everyone preaches, just write a good test....Well now what. He writes over a 100 raw score, and that still is not good enough. Even with an average as low as ours for FSC. Hopefully...the reseting of the sea/award points will help to eleviate some of these types of situations from happening in the future.
It depends on what his stats are; I wrote two points less than him and I got moved to the #1 hole. I have 9 years at sea and 12 in the CG, marks are good etc.
I agree that he should not have been bumped that far, and his was one of the 1st names I looked at and was shocked when I saw how far he went.
So in short I agree, but I amlso disagree, Sea points are not the thing that needs to be reset, if you take an FS1 with the minimum required sea time or waivers (I don't know how much he has) advance him to FSC and stick him on a 270 with no FSO exp I think yo uare setting him up for failure. Like I said, It's a hypothetical situation but you see where I'm goin' right?
That being said FS4life seems like a great guy, I don't know him but his posts are inteligent enough that leads me to believe he knows what he's talking about. I wish him all the best. But resetting sea points is not the answer.
One more note, by resetting stats your saying that ALL you have to do is test well, meaning whether I know what I am doing or not, if I study my @$$ off and score a 149 and make it. It says nothing of if he can motivate his cooks to prepare food for 150 in 40' seas on Christmas day.
I was shocked as you were, i thought at the most i would have been bumped to 20's. I only have 2 cutters; a 210 i served as a snfs to fs2 then a 270 as a FS1. I had a FSo job at Station Marathon then SCA for a tour.I only have 8 years TIS but marks were above average. My time will come and I'll make sure next SWE I make it. Congrats to all that are going to Advance!
