I went from LeonardWood, March to Sept. We left just before the Blackhawk Down incident, things were just heating up again as we left. First heat was in Jun, when they did the arrest warrant thing.

That was all a very crazy incident. Talk about a supprise .
And, the way those rebels were acting, like they would take any one of us Americans out, anytime.....WOW, that pissed me off as well.
Maybe you all know about it, maybe you don't so I thought I would mention it.
First off, I wasn't there.
I read a very interesting book by CWO4 (Ret) Michael Durant, the pilot of "Super 64", the second Black Hawk shot down. It's titled, "In the Company of Heroes".
He told about the conflict, his crash and the days he was held captive.
One of my favorite books.
Thank you all so much for your service.

I liked that book too. It was interesting to read about other things he'd done in his career besides just the Somalia operation. I wish someone would write a book about Gordon and Shughart. We all know what they did when they died, but what about the rest of their lives?

Those two men are my heroes. I wish more people now a day would have the same courage they had.
this is why bill clinton and the un will rot in hell for all eternity
I hate the UN. It's good for nothing except power hungry and money grabbing. Best thing would be to relocate the UN in Africa someplace. As for the Clinton's. Clinton had the chance to get Ossma Ben Laden when the Sudan government had him in jail for crimes but Clinton refused. Then when he was released and kicked out of Sudan and fly to Afaganstan the U.S. Military wanted to shoot down his lear jet. Again Clinton said no. And yes, his admistration sure screwed up Somalia. And lots more!
I was a contract helo mechanic working for the Army at the airfield at the time. We weren't really sure what was happening at first. Didn't have a need to know, I guess. Helped alot getting some little birds ready. RIP
I was there in Jan. 1993 with 1st Battalion 2nd Marines C co. Wpns.Plt. Machineguns. OORAH! That place was hot as hell. Oh yeah, the temperature was up there too,heh heh. I was there when Black Hawk Down happened. The politicians thought we had the place secure so we left to go to Kuwait because Suddam was acting stupid again. A few weeks went by and we were called back to Somalia to straighten the locals out. When I was there the Somali's feared us, but they had no fear or respect for the U.S. Army or or anything else for that matter. There's an old saying "Fight Fire with Fire". That what we are used for. You know how they could tell us apart? We wore Black Cadillac's instead of those pretty desert camo boots the Army wore. SEMPER FI
i was there with AF spec ops. during the battle i was on the flight line the whole time waiting to launch AC-130 gunships because we were to have it ready to go. but we never got the call. i pray for all that fought there. RIP
