I'm waiting on my orders for the Airman program. Could anyone offer me any advice or suggestions that might help me out before I go.

You will impress folks by showing up with a completed Individual Development Plan (IDP), take and pass the EPME AQE test for E4, bring your medical record and training record with you when you show up. Have a good haircut, clean uniform, show up early for work and have a good attitude while your in the program and you'll do fine. There are times you will be swabbing the hangar deck and taking fuel samples on the aircraft but it's part of the deal so make the best of it.

Good luck and what air station are you going to?

I appreciate the heads up. I'll ask my OINC about the IDP when I go back to work on tuesday. Would you suggest taking the EPME test before I go to the airman program or after I get there. I'll of course have my medical record, however we do not have training records here at the ANT. Everything is done electronicaly. Taking fuel samples is nothing new to me I was an engineer on a 210 so I figure I can handle that. I plan on making the best of whatever they can throw at me. I don't know what airstation i'm going to yet. I haven't gotten my orders yet...but I'm trying to get AIRSTA Clearwater. Thanks again.

You should already be doing an IDP at your unit if you've been in less than 4 years and are a non-rate. I would suggest getting the EPME test done before you show up if you are able to. It's one less thing you have to worry about at the air station. Where you do your airman program is usually at the closest air station to where you are now unless they have too many. If your in Maryland I would guess Elizabeth City or Atlantic City for ya but who knows. Good luck...

Once again, thank you for your information. I have actually been in for almost 6 years now. I had a break in service so I won't be required to complete an IDP. I talked to my BM1 about it today. I got out as an EM3 but I am going to try and complete the EPME before I go. And you are completely right about that. I would definately like to get that out of the way. I want to be able to put everything I can into the airman program and not have to worry about something else. If you have any other information or tips you can give me feel free to email me at my personal account mikedelamer@hotmail.com or michael.j.delamer@uscg.mil or you can call me on my cell phone (937)657-0203. This goes for anyone else who reads this and might have any tips for me to help me do the best I can while working my way through to making PO3 again. Thanks

Mike
