I hear that the HH-60 only has about 2 years left of service. Is this true? Because I worked on them for 4 years in the AF and would like to continue working on them but not if I will be out of the job in 2 years.
The CG puts many more hours per year on their H-60s than any other user. Airframe cracks have been chased around for years. I've been out since 2006, but the plan, then, was to upgrade the airframe and avionics into a "T" model and fly them for "many" more years.
The USCG does one thing that all the other services do not, we provide the most comprehensive PDM outside of Sikorsky Aircraft. It's this and this alone that gets us the authorization to operate the H-60 beyond it's 10,000 hour life limit. We literally turn out a "green" airframe every 4 years that is nearly as new as it can get. If that isn't enough, the other services are getting ready to start letting us perform PDM to thier H-60's. With what we do, we're able to sustain the H-60 well into 2025 and hopefully the USAF and the ARMY will capitalize on this as well.
Well Thanks for your input and showing me that the rumors I have heard, really are just rumors. I loved working on them and hope to continue doing so. It is really a great air frame.
