I was an Airman and AVT/AET3 at Barbers Point, C-130 side. The island was great, the Air Station was great, the flying was great, the deployments were great.
I'd recommend it to anybody ... and for God's sake, if any of you A school grads get stationed there and are assigned to the Herc side ... don't act like it's the end of the world. I've seen far too many people react that way. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

If you noticed these posts, it all depends on the person. Some people love being in Kodiak or Sitka, some would rather be eaten by the bears! My suggestion is to not try and get close to home for your first unit. Although you have familiarity with the area, sometimes the people you grew up with are not the people you need around at your first unit. Take the time to sit down with your wife and find out what is important to both of you (i.e. Big/Small City, Rural/ Urban Area, outdoor life/ shopping areas). Then look at the listings and see what matches up. Any place can be enjoyable, its all what you make of it!!!

I loved Kodiak, well, until I drove through the gate every morning, then I dreaded it. I personally wouldn't recommend it for a first tour after a-school, but it's big and you're just another face.

I was stationed at Air Station Cape Cod for a couple years and we liked it a lot. You are close enough to Boston and Providence to enjoy what they have to offer, and there are some beautiful beaches up in Cape Cod. I know a lot of people don't like the area, but if was good for the family.
