DH was prior army for 4 years. During that time, he got Lasek eye surgey. Well, we've been through a whole mess with trying to get his army medical records. The docs at the base here told him what eye doc to go to to get it checked out to see if he had the right kind. HE DOES!!! So the higher-ups were/are trying to get him a waiver, but they informed him today that more than likely, even though it was the right eye surgery, that it probably wont be approved bc he got it done by the Army. Anyone ever heard of this?? Now we dont know whether or not to wait it out again for another 6 months(weve been dealing with this since April) or just go to another rate to make some rank. (Being an E-5 in the army, and getting knocked down to an E-3 in the CG is hard) Any advice is welcome. I just need to know if any of you have dealt with this. THanks
I believe he got PRK which is what all the branches are doing now. Getting a waiver in the Coast Guard for it shouldn't be that big of an issue. Its not like the Coast Guard can actually do the surgery themselves. I actually know a couple people in the Coast Guard who got their PRK done by the army, and yes they are in Aviation. Just keep on pushing it until you get the answer you want. You can always ask for a second opinion. Good Luck.
