I'm looking for memories or other information about a submarine portcall to Castine, Maine, home of the Maine Maritime Academy, in the early/mid 1960s. I don't know how often these port visits occurred and the sub may have been diesel or nuclear, but it offered tours to civilians. It was there for the 4th of July and they launched fireworks over the bay. A friend is trying to learn more about her own early memory of the tour.

I'd appreciate whatever people can share about which submarine it might have been and where we could find out more.

Check the archives of the local newspaper.

Thanks, we'll try that along with the MMA's student paper & yearbooks. I'm hoping that someone also has memories of the visit.
