A question for the old salty dogs...

When would I be eligible to take the FSCS SWE if I made FSC off of the 08 SWE??

A) May 10, since I have already been eligible for a year?

or

B) May 11, since I pinned on FSC in 09?

There is a little disagreement on the answer, and the Manual is muddy with Lawyerese on the subject. What do the Old Dogs with a 1000+ years of experience have to pass on to we the young ones.

Thanks

The only way you can take it in May 2010 is if you made it on 01Jan09. Otherwise you will not meet the 24 month requirement, because the TED for the May 2010 SWE is 01Jan11. From the Persman - 5.C.5.c

My understanding is that you can take the exam but are not eligible to advance for 2 years. That came from the EMCS on the ship.

That's incorrect. Check the Personnel Manual, 5.C.5.c...it's in black and white...no hearsay.

If your asking when you can take the SWE for Senior Chief, maybe you're not ready to be a Senior Chief.

Boy John, you are always so much nicer than me! Good thing you made that point before I did! I surely would not have included the "maybe" and I surely wouldn't have included the "senior" before Chief.
